</p><p>Sometimes Google likes to experiment on users with alternate layouts (for example, showing desktop users a mobile layout). It's never clear why or how long these changes will last, but if you don't need to be logged in to your account when searching, a possible way to escape is:
</p><p>(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

</p><p>If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. Make sure to only clear the web cache and not ALL site data.
</p><p>(2) Remove your Google cookies (save any pending work first)
</p><p>While viewing a results page, click the lock icon at the left end of the address bar. After a moment, a "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button should appear at the bottom of the drop-down site information panel. Go ahead and click that.
</p><p>In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.
