Since update to 78.0.2 constantly asked by Windows to allow program to make changes. Progress bar shows installing update to FF.

Next restart, same game.

Turns out . . . it was trying to update to 79.0.

I discovered this when, out of desperation, I restarted Windows. It then wanted to update FF, but this time, took a lot longer. It appeared to complete, yet the "Help. About FF" showed it was updating, even after many minutes.

Seemed to be working fine for general browsing, but it never said complete. I ended up closing FF which it did without complaint.

After starting FF, without it complaining, the image below is what was found in "Help, about FF"

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.

You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.

Make sure all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder.

Background update is enabled. All previous updates seem to have worked fine this way.
