Firefox 70.0 x64. I have a number of add-ons installed, but have reviewed their options and don't seem to find an explanation.

As shown in the image, there is a down arrow character, more like an inverted caret, at the right end of my tabs bar. When I mouse over it, it says, "List all tabs." If I click on it, that's what it does: it lists the currently open tabs. But it seems to exist only after I've added a newly opened tab, as distinct from restoring previously opened tabs. In Customize, it is grayed out and refuses to be dragged away.

Any ideas where this might have come from, or how I could proceed to find out?

This "List all tabs" button has always been there, but it is only shown when you have opened a specific minimum number of tabs (i.e. it is hidden by default). You can check this out in a new window and open new tabs until this button appears. At some point you will also get the scroll buttons to scroll the Tab bar. So it is quite normal to see this button appear at the very right end on the Tab bar.
