Google reCaptcha doesn't work (as well as other google scripts)

Được đăng

Hello, I've encountered a problem, where Firefox doesn't show reCaptcha and many other google scripts and tools. If I open the console, I can clearly see, it can't load pretty much any <script> from .js file, regardless the source. Off course, most often from one of the google's pages, such as gstatic.com, googlesyndication.com, google-analytics.com, etc. Warning is usually followed by "Invalid chrome URI: /", but not every time.

I've already tried these steps to resolve my issue, but without any success. - restarted FF in safe mode without extensions (no change) - disabled all blocking features included in FF (no change) - checked, that javascript itself isn't disabled (it isn't)

I've even tried instalation of Waterfox and Pale Moon without importing anything from FF. It doesn't work there too. On the other hand, Opera and IE works fine, but I don't like them.

Could you please help me a bit? BTW, I have FF with the exactly same settings on my laptop, which is also synced with my account, and it works just fine. Both computers run Win7.

Let's start with,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

A few thoughts:

(1) Google ads and analytics might be affected by Content Blocking. Does Firefox display a shield icon toward the left end of the address bar on pages with this problem? More information on managing Content Blocking (tracking protection) in this article: Content blocking.

(2) A chrome:// URI is a reference to a file that is built into Firefox, so that shouldn't be related to a website loading files, but could indicate some other problem.

(3) Have you noticed any issues with secure connection errors?

(4) Could you open the Network Monitor in the lower part of the tab, using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Network
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Network
  • (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+e

When you reload the page, Firefox should start listing all the files it is requesting, along with information about whether the request was successful. If there are files that will not load, is there any explanation? If you right-click and try to open them in a new tab, is there any useful error message?

I will respond step by step.

1) Content blocking was one of my first tries. I turned it off, no change. Turned it on, no change again.

2) Let's keep this aside for now.

3) No I have not.

4) There's nothing suspicious. I'm trying to log-in on this page - https://yourdyno.com/community/questions-and-answers-questions-and-answers/using-a-transformer-to-run-a-96v-brake/?wpforo=signin I don't see any of that google stuff in network monitor, which is weird.

Hi Trinom, does the Web Console show any explanation for Google files not loading? That's the Console tab a few clicks to the left from the Network tab in the dev tools panel.

If I understand the translation, it says the script failed to load, but I don't see any explanation as to why it failed to load. If the Network tab showed the Firefox didn't even request the files, that would often point to an add-on blocking the requests. However, if you tested in Firefox's Safe Mode and the same issue occurred, then we would rule out add-ons.

I went once again through the logs and I've found recaptcha request (see picture). I tried to open it in a new tab and it throws "SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER".

"Server www.gstatic.com has set safety rule HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which allows only safe connection. It's not possible to grant a exception for this page."

I checked the certificate and it looks like some garbage residue after one adware. Let me investigate more...

You can check if there is more detail available about the issuer of the certificate.

  • click the "Advanced" button show more details
  • click the blue error text (SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER) to show the certificate chain
  • click "Copy text to clipboard" and paste the base64 certificate chain text in a reply

If clicking the blue error text doesn't provide the certificate chain then try these steps to inspect the certificate.

  • open the Servers tab in the Certificate Manager
    • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Certificates: View Certificates -> Servers: "Add Exception"
  • paste the URL of the website (https://xxx.xxx) in it's Location field

Let Firefox retrieve the certificate -> "Get Certificate"

  • click the "View" button and inspect the certificate

You can find detail like the issuer of the certificate and intermediate certificates in the Details tab.

I scanned my PC with malware removal tool, it has found some crap and removed it. Problem disappeared.

When it showed me the error regarding the certificate, there was different issuer than Google, which was the first impulse to check my computer for unwanted garbage. Luckily it found it (there was some persistent residue of long time ago removed adware). So my problem has been solved :)

Thank you guys.
