what does " Select the extensions you want this program to open by default" mean in FireFox?
when I opened firefox it tells me that it is not the default browser...ok...when I select make it my browser a screen then comes up with a table and selections for extensions...I don't recall ever seeing that and I was given a chance to select one or more or all but really don't know what this is all about anyway. A little help from you pro's would be nice and thanks!

Hi magnogreato, it sounds like a new thing I haven't seen yet.
Possibly Firefox discovered some extensions already installed on your system by other programs, and was checking on whether you wanted to enable them? This helps protect against hijacking by software installers.
Or it could be a set of suggestions for things you might want to install??
Are you sure that this is coming from Firefox and not a feature added by other software on your computer?

I can't explain why you needed to set Firefox to be your default browser again, but if you have to take two minutes to do that every five years, I think you can handle it. Especially now that you know how it works.

If you want files with those extension to open in Firefox, and URLs starting with those protocols to open in Firefox, click Select All. Then click Save.
This is about setting Firefox as the application in Windows to handle specific file extensions if you double-click a file extension in external software. So this is an OS setting and not a Firefox setting. If you want to use Firefox the handle these file extensions then you can set checkmarks for all the proposed file extensions.

Speaking for myself : I should have realized that merely providing you with that link was not enough (sorry .... ) Totally understandable that you wouldn't have a clue as to what file extension(s) to check.
Just in case what is suggested by jscher2000 and cor-el still leaves you with a big question mark; maybe you could post this question on the official Microsoft support forum :
