I tried getting a screenshot of the problem, but even though I carefully followed the directions to do this it failed. So I am at the end of spending so much time on an issue that is YOUR FAULT.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

Now my top menus have disappeared altogether.

So I'm done with Firefox, I have wasted so much of my precious business day trying to fix this that I don't care anymore.

I'll find a different browser and move over to that. Why you want to have so much control over what I do is simply unfathomable. My settings were not preserved and now I'd have spend more time to resolve a problem (no top menus) all over again because I certainly don't remember those steps I took. I'm not interested in messing with your application, I just want to USE it. Why you cannot comprehend this is beyond me. You have set me back for the day. Because I can no longer use this application that I have used for years with satisfaction. If someone would ask me what I think I would say it was good but is now a piece of overblown crap. If I sound angry it is because I am. I resisted using the reset Firefox button because I had a feeling that I would lose more than I gained. Even though your product is free it is just not good enough for a professional business person such as myself .

If you are already considering leaving Firefox, a Firefox Refresh won't hurt anything (Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings).

I'm not quite understanding what your problem is, do you have a screenshot that illustrates what's wrong a bit more clearly?

To Summarize, I recovered my toolbar, but the problem I outlined before still exists, when I open a sub-menu from the toolbar only greyed out (not active) item show up because clearly the text and background colours are the same. When i scroll down each item shows up and the disappears again as I move from one item to another, the same applied to menus obtained by using the right click on my mouse. So all you succeeded in doing for me was making jump through the same hoops I jumped through when I upgraded to Quantum. The problem is still the same and still unacceptable as there appears to be no easy fix. So please don't tell me to choose a different layout because the problem remains only some times, depending on the new layout they are all black. I have done all the searching and testing I have the patience for, now I have to go to my shop and kick someones arse to get them to work. That is so much easier than dealing with this crap.

As for screenshot this is impossible because the moment I select to take a screenshot the sub-menu closes as you full well know. So

I'll do one last thing and try to make a movie of the problem and then that is that.

Now all the top bar menus that I am complaining about that the sub menus items are not readable have dissipated, so I am no happier as I have to make them come back somehow

I posted a screen capture you may have missed it. And I did start in Safe mode etc. The problem is still there.

FredMcD, I have started Firefox in safe mode, from my original boot. I have rebooted and started Firefox in safe_mode again. There was no menubar to see and no bookmarks bar either. I went into customize and changed it so I see the interface I prefer to use. In both cases the drop down menus from the menubar and the popup menus from the right mouse click have spaces where links should be and greyed out text where the link is disabled. Nothing has changed and I still can't get enough intelligence from anyone to solve this problem.

Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

Type about:customizing<enter> in the address bar.

Note: about:customizing is no longer present in Firefox 47+ releases.

• Press Alt or F10 to bring up the toolbar.
  Then View > Toolbars > Customize.
• Right-click on a blank spot in the toolbar and select Customize.

Look for Show / Hide Toolbars at the bottom left.

There is also a Restore Defaults button at the bottom middle.

FredMcD, As much as I appreciate your response I have to say that I have tried customization and nothing I do changes what my problem is. And the problem is I cannot use the drop down menus effectively because the show up as white text on a white background. I shouldn't have to do this much work to get my sub-menu items to show up. I am using Ubuntu 18.04 and the only application that has this problem is Firefox.

I do suppose that I could find the theme I am using (default) and edit it, but frankly I looked at the file and wasn't prepared to rewrite to work for me. I am a Linux fan and I do make significant changes to software. I did read somewhere that the problem was with hardware acceleration, but I haven't diddled with that because I am ignorant of how to do it.

I do appreciate your help but the trails you send me on do not return a result that works for me. I have tried changing to every theme in the customize page and although the colours and so on of everything else changes nothing gives me what I want, and I believe that what I want is not unreasonable or even necessary for me to fix. This has been a Firefox problem since I upgraded.

Thanks for your efforts but unless you have a specific fix for this issue I don't have time to repeat my efforts over the past year to fix it with no results.
