No, deleting the OPML file will not affect traditional "link to page" bookmarks, it just contains a record of whatever RSS feeds you had saved to your bookmarks that Firefox 64 already removed.

If you think there's any possibility of useful information in there, you could try this:

right-click Firefox feeds backup.opml

click Rename

change the .opml extension to .txt

Then you can easily open it for viewing and see what addresses are in there. Here's mine as an example:

<?xml version="1.0"?> <opml version="1.0"><head><title>Firefox Live Bookmarks</title></head><body> <outline type="rss" title="Tasting the World" text="Tasting the World" xmlUrl="https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ttw/feed/" htmlUrl="https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ttw"/> </body></opml>

Can I delete the icon now on my desktop without impacting my traditional bookmarks?

Email I sent earlier today......

In the second link I gave you earlier it says :

Automatically export all existing Live Bookmarks to an OPML file on your desktop named Firefox feeds backup.opml which you can import into another feed reader.

If I don't use Live Bookmarks or a Feed reader -

- why has this shown up on my desktop recently

- If I remove or delete it from my desktop will this impact my current traditional bookmarks?

Firefox 64+ no longer supports RSS and Atom feeds and existing feeds have been converted to a normal link to the website. Since this leads to dataloss, all feeds have been exported to an OPML file on the desktop that can be used to import the feeds in a feed reader application.
