Since Adobe flash upgraded today, Firefox will not go from one place to another without locking up. If i try to close window, it closes but when I try to go somewhere, it tells me Firefox is running and do I want to close..If yes, it closes and I can go to desired bookmark..but again when I try to go to another bookmark Firefox locks up and the process starts again. Any suggestions..W10, Firefox all up to date..Adobe flash enabled. Deleted all the cookies too.

Additional info is if I am on Zyngagames.com to play Farmville2, and try to go to Facebook, I see in the address bar the green lock..even though I have said on Facebook Farmville 2 to allow Flash player and remember..it freezes..If I close and start on Facebook and try to go the Zynga games..again green lock and it freezes. So It must have something to do with Adobe flash ver 31.0.0.108 More oddly, If I open on Edge browser it works fine (Edge is awful and I much prefer Firefox)

What Adobe upgrade are we talking about?

This is about Flash that got updated a very days ago to 13.0.0.108 like the OP wrote above.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case content is blocked by Tracking Protection.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I have done all your suggestions and going from one site to another still incurs a lock up of Firefox..it is like, in my unprofessional opinion, that firefox is not closing one site and then when I go to the other, it locks..because I have to do a "close window" and then reopen the desired new window and it tells me "firefox is running" and I have to say to close and then it will open the new window I was trying to go to in the first place. Sometimes when Firefox locks up I do get the Firefox "sorry" box ..we had a problem and I do fill it out and send..again..all this started after the flash update..hope this information helps rectify the issue

Hi, you can try this, uninstall Flash :

Reinstall with Flash Player Version: 31.0.0.108 Current Version

If still issues : please try a Refresh but Note that this does more than uninstalling and re-installing does. Normal uninstalling does not remove some preferences which may have become corrupt. Please Refresh but do this 1st:

then

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thank you pkshadow..reinstalled flash and did reset..still locks. I took a snip of the page when it locks..on bottom left is what is was trying to do-does not always say the same thing. I was playing Farmville2 on Facebook and then went to up menu bookmarks to go to Zyngagames to play the same game..the screen locks as in the snip (hope no personal info is revealed-let me now if so -new to snip). My only way out is to go to the bottom and right click and close window When I try to again go to anywhere on the internet, a window appears that says Firefox is already running and do I want to close--have to say yes and then it opens with two tabs, One is a recovery tab of where I was going when it locked and the other where I wanted to go . Very odd.

UPDATE: It seems to be happening when I try to go from one site that uses flash to another the most. If I am going from site to site not using flash I go flawlessly as usual with Firefox..but flash game sites like Facebook games and Zynga games lock the browser up . I have also added a snip of the Firefox message I get after closing the window and try to reenter the flash sites

Not enough info, if ever make a question again share your info as it is nothing but needed info as I would see your video card Drivers. Guess... https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

Try No hardware Acceleration.

What is going on in MS Task Manager.

No you say lock up. So what do you do crash the Browser with the X or shut it down in Task Manager ?

Or does it actually crash. If does actually crash then can use the reports. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/firefox-crashes-troubleshoot-prevent-and-get-help

You can set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the about:addons page ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins) and only allow the plugin if you really need it.

I have tried all your suggestions, and disabled hardware accceleration, set flash to ask etc. and HP drivers are up to date. I do not know how to send you any other information. I do not use task manager to close the window. I right click on the firefox icon in my lower bar and select to close window. The browser does not CRASH it FREEZES. In fact as I sent in my snip, when I try to open Firefox again, I get a message that it is still running and I have to select to close and then the window opens with two tabs..one a restore previous window and the other the the place I was trying to open

Back again with same issue not resolved. Have had many conversations with Adobe and sent them a bug and sent crash reports to them (think they sent to you also). their findings are that Firefox is "handing" and not closing properly and thus hangs and then gives me the "crash " box. I have changed per your help info, my profile to uncheck read only and run in safe mode, reset and all the other suggestions previously mentioned here etc. but the issue still hangs when going from one site to another-even from a flash site and back to my Google home page. I have 161 pending crash .dmp files..do you want those..If so, how do i send them to you?. If i sit and wait for the :I am sorry Firefox has crashed box" in order to send you each crash, I would never get anything done. I just go to the bottom and close the window and then of course I get the bos that says Firefox is running and have to stop and then it finally gives me a window I can go somewhere. this may be a small issue to you but a huge issue for me.

As an update (if anyone is following or reading this) is that Firefox now is very hard to actually close.. I used to just go to the bottom of the screen and select close window but that now closes but when it tries to load again it just hangs up trying to load the last page..I have to go to task manager and end task on Firefox. As you can imagine, this makes Firefox almost impossible to use. Disappointing as I was a big Firefox fan but this unresolved issue dampens that. It seems in my novice opinion, that mostly when playing a flash game, Firefox does not close properly and hangs/locks. It also happens If I am playing a flash game like FV2 and go to my home page of Google it locks also
