Firefox will only support XP on the Extended Release Version and that is only until July end as XP is EOL.
Please uninstall Firefox again. Click on 52esr and install that please. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/ Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

How is it not working as in Firefox not even starting up or just not connecting to any sites?. Somebody may be able to help you if you give more details on your issues.
FF will not load. says file missing or corrupt. Deleted FF through win7. tried to install FF 58 but will not install. May not have deleted enough?
this is a mess. good thing I have another comp I can use.
So, I have uninstalled mozilla 60x. uninstalled flash player.
what do I need to do to get back to a functional browser?
anyone there?
Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
- download the Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop
*https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.
- do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
- it is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

Reinstall Firefox
W7. uninstalled FF. If I delete the program folder, as instructed, looks like everything, including Profile will be gone. Ideas?

Don't worry, your profile is stored in a separate location from the Firefox program files. See the article Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data for more information.
Well, this is still a mess. I moved the entire FF folder and renamed it. I next started the FF installer for 61.0 Installer says completed successfully, but on attempted start of FF I still get the message "already running but not responding". What have I missed and not deleted?
For the error message you get when you try to start Firefox, you could try rebooting your computer. You could also see the article "Firefox is already running but is not responding" error - How to fix.
