Using Firefox 59.0.3 (64-bit), when I try to enable the "Use offline" setting in Gmail I get the error message:

"The browser that you are using is missing some features required to enable offline. To enable offline, you must use Chrome with version 61 or higher."

Like many people, I don't want to use Chrome, but I do want to use Gmail offline. Is there a practical solution, please?

Hi WaterfordWanderer,

If you use Thunderbird you can use Gmail offline :

If you don't use Thunderbird, but would like to :

Thank you, Murphy, for your prompt reply!

I have been aware of Thunderbird for more than a decade but have resisted using it.

Since I travel a lot, I often have to use computers that are not my own and while Firefox is often available, Thunderbird rarely is - that's just one reason I would prefer to use a Gmail + Firefox browser based solution.

Many people use web based email. Very many people use web browsers to access Gmail.

I like to use Firefox online to access web-based Gmail and if I was to switch to using Chrome instead, I could continue composing replies offline and upload them later when I was online again.

Is there a technical reason why I'm never able to do this with Firefox or is this an anti-competitive practice by Google?

Yes, of course - for 'regular browsing', but not for a feature that you are looking for, I'm afraid. But maybe somebody will prove me wrong (fingers crossed).

I have absolutely no idea - maybe somebody with more knowledge in this area will be able to answer that question.

I'm so sorry that I haven't been able to give you the answers you're

'Did some more searching and I found this add-on :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/checker-plus-gmail/

Under 'About this extension' (scroll down some) it says :

" Supports the offline view " .......

(I'm afraid it doesn't do what you want, though - but : who knows ..... )
