I came home and Firefox did auto upgrade and have lost all bookmarks! How do I get them back?
I am devastated. I came home turned on computer and attempted to log into home page at msn. I was delayed with a msg showing up that said firefox was updating. When my browser opened up I went to my bookmarks and they were all gone and so was my browsing history. My whole life and death of 2 family members were in those bookmarks!
Please help me to recover all those bookmarks? There were prob hundreds of them. My email is xxxxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx (email removed by moderator).
Anxiously waiting your reply. And I do not know a username or if I have ever logged in before. But use FF on a daily basis for yrs.

As far as I know we can find a backup, try the steps in this guide:
Good luck and please let me know if it fixed it!
Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Am so frustrated as I dont know how to restore the link they gave me and I saw the date and time of the old firefox file and it is after the firefox upgrade that wiped out my bookmarks. It says it can not undo the action if I restore it and I dont want to rick losing the only chance I have of getting them back. SO what do I do now?
Hi trueliberty, if the backup listed on the restore menu doesn't seem old enough or big enough to have your missing bookmarks, then don't bother trying to restore it.
Regarding the Old Firefox Data folder, if you double-click inside, then into the semi-randomly named profile folder (like a1b2c3d4.default), and then finally into the bookmarkbackups folder, do you see any files there which look like they have the right date and size? You can judge from the file names, for example:
bookmarks-2018-05-02_6102_gibberish==.jsonlz4
Was created on May 2, 2018 and contains 6102 items. (Which in my case are a lot of duplicates I don't have time to weed out!)
Do you see any files you want to try to restore?
Any of the dates before 05-01-2018 should have all the folders but I do not know how to look and see what is there.
Also says that there is not a program on my computer to open it. So dont know what to do on how to see whats there.
I appreciate all the help I have been getting. I will make very sure that I have my own backup if I can restore these. I just wasnt aware I should.
Thank you Ava
You can convert the .jsonlz4 file (compressed backup file) to HTML if you want to view its contents. I have a tool for that on my website here:

If there's a file you decide you want to restore to Firefox, go back to the Library window, Restore menu, and click "Choose File". Firefox should open a file browsing window that lets you point Firefox to the desktop, into Old Firefox Data, etc.etc. until you reach the file you want to restore.
