Firefox Creates a New Profile
Recently, Firefox updated itself and I started having problems. The most annoying one is that it creates a new default profile and replaces my existing one every once in a while. It seems to happen every week or so. I copy over my addtional profile files, but it keeps happening. Three family members use the PC, but I seem to be the only one affected.
I did a complete uninstall and reinstalled a fresh copy of Firefox, but no luck. Any ideas?
Regard...John

It sounds like the browser is refreshing for some reason. Have you noticed any problems or error messages?
You say every week. Do you mean the same day or about a week?
Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. Now in the Reply Box on the forum page, do a right-click in the box and select Paste.
This will show us your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.
It happens randomly every several days, not on a specific day or exactly a week.
I uploaded the support info here (it was larger than accepted limit):
I did not see anything and called for more help.
Thanks.
How much ram do you have ? With the extensions you are using somewhere over 300megs of ram. About 20 megs each.
You have crash reports there please send so get the bp- file as a URL here as per directions, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
- Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.
Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.
(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)
Firstly, I have 4GB of RAM. As to the apps, I only have two of them Enabled at this point. In my previous version of Firefox, I had all of them Enabled and did not have this problem. The problem accelerated yesterday. The profile changed to a new one Twice.
Please do not use a screenshot. It is hard to enter the numbers manually.
Some of your crash reports weren’t sent to the Mozilla Servers.
In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

I appreciate everyone's time and efforts, but I think I'm going to give up and go back to a previous version of Firefox. I didn't ask for this update anyway. On 4/23, it changed profiles twice. In checking 'about:crashes' as suggested, there is no log for that day. Also, as I mentioned, there are other problems with this version.
On my son's account, there are other issues. When he hits 'Email Link', it sets off very numerous hits of Internet Explorer even though he defaults to Thunderbird as his email client. Also, if he leaves his Firefox open, my wife and my Internet access slows dramatically. This only happens with his account.
There are too many problems with this for me. Anyway, thanks again.
What is the name of the profile?
Is that ending in .default or is there a time stamp appended?
profiles.ini
I do not mean the profiles.ini file, but the actual profile folder with the random name (xxxxxxxx.default). The profiles.ini file lists all profiles that Firefox knows about, so you can also inspect this file in a text editor.
cjhkydyi.default
Quote: "cjhkydyi.default"
The profile name doesn't have a time stamp appended and this means that the profile wasn't created via a refresh, but because there was a problem with the profiles.ini file.
You can check the profiles.ini file to verify only one profile is listed and you can also check if there is only one profile present and not other profiles that aren't listed in profiles.ini.
The profiles.ini can be found in this hidden location.
- Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\ - http://kb.mozillazine.org/profiles.ini_file
I checked the profiles.ini file and there is only one profile listed. As I said before, I appreciate all your efforts, but this is a lost cause. There are also the other problems I mentioned.
I'm just gonna go back to a previous version.
