How can I save Firefox download to use in the future when my OS is not supported

Được đăng

Hi, My computer is Windows Vista. I have installed Firefox as my internet browser. And I like it. I know that Firefox will not support Windows Vista some time in May or in June. My question is: How can I save a Firefox Setup download that works with my OS now in a backup device for future use when Firefox Setup is not available to download because my OS is not supported, and in case the Firefox browser in my computer is accidentally deleted? My family members have deleted it twice accidentally in the past. . . . And then, what do I have to do to install it from the backup device? Please give me some advice about what I should do. I have very little knowledge about computer. Thanks, Gemston

The https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ pages as I stated has the current Firefox 52 ESR which is 52.7.3 ESR and will run on Windows XP and Vista. You need the Windows 32-bit version of 52 ESR as Windows 64-bit version will not run on WinXP/Vista.

Firefox 53.0 and later Releases does not run on WinXP or Vista as the other posters posted the http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ link which leads to the current Firefox Release 59.0.2 which requires Windows 7, 8 (8.1), 10 to run.

If you want a older than 52.7.3esr version then click on the version > win32 > language such as en-US

For example for en-US (English) 52.7.3esr it is the Firefox Setup 52.7.3esr.exe in https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.7.3esr/win32/en-US/

Firefox 52.9.0 esr out on June 26 is the last release (apart from any 52.9.x security/stability updates) that will run on Windows XP and Vista.

hi, mozilla keeps installers for all versions around for download - even after they become unsupported. here's the list to obtain any of them: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/

the end of support for firefox on xp/vista is currently scheduled for august 2018 btw, so you have a few more months of breathing space :-)

First, use the full, off-line installer package, rather than the stub-installer which is what most users download. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

2nd, hide the damn installer so that other users don't have access to that file. A separate Logon User Account in Windows is a must for each user of a shared PC. That way no other LUA would have access to the files that the other users download and / or use, such as Logins / Passwords, and the like.

Also, you could save to a dedicated USB Flash Drive to archive important programs and data files, and use the security feature that many USB drives have for password-only access to that drive.

Thanks, philipp. That really gives me peace. I would still like to make a backup, just in case. Life is full of uncertainties! I'd also like to thank you, the-edmeister. Where can I get the full, off-line installer package? What is the difference between the two installer packages and their website addresses? Gemston

Hi, the difference between the installers are that 1 just down loads a little tiny Setup File which is called a Stub Installer. When you click on the Stub it downloads the rest of the files it needs to setup and install.

The other is a larger file that contains all the files needed to install with out going up to download anything.

So you want the above only, the Full Version Installer for later.

This link gives you the Current Version always , Full Installer https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

This link will give you a list of every version ever made and are Full Installers https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ Is not to worry these will be there for a long long time as it goes back to version 0.10.1 and continues in to what is version 60 in Beta Release at this time.

I hope that helps you out.

If so, Please Click and Mark whatever Solution was the Answer so that others can find it. Thanks.

Note the www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ link leads to the current Firefox Release which is 59.0.2 which requires Windows 7, 8 (8.1), 10 to run.

WinXP/Vista needs the Firefox 52 ESR in which current version (52.7.3esr) is listed at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/

WinXP/Vista users also need to use the 32-bit version of 52 ESR for Windows as Win64 requires 64-bit Windows 7, 8 (8.1), 10 to run.

The future Firefox 60 ESR will not run on WinXP/Vista.

Hi, Thank you all for your answers. I feel more educated now. Regarding the full installers at https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ , how can I install Firefox from there? I clicked on the link, I saw the text which lists all versions. I saw the version for my computer, I clicked on it, but I just saw the text about the version which I don't understand much. . . . I didn't see the download of the Setup file. Please educate me more on this. Thanks, Gemston

Actually the list goes back to 0.8 (zero point eight) the first Release to have Firefox name (before it was Firebird and Phoenix) as 0.10 and 0.10.1 (zero point ten) was a kind of preview version of later Firefox 1.0 Release. It was a headache as some websites misunderstood version as Firefox 0.1 (zero point one)
