I should also add that the steps outlined by JimPaterson on 4/9/18 at 2:14 PM are exactly the steps you need to take to be able to access your original bookmarks and structure. I'll repeat Jim's steps here for anyone else who may read this blog in the future. Jim's procedure below resolves the problem entirely.  :)

"So, open Firefox. Click on the 3 horizontal stripes at the top right of the screen, to open the full menu. Select Customize and you will see all the menu items, including your beloved bookmarks. I was so pleased when I found mine. Any of these can be dragged to the menu bar - the area to the right of the address bar. "

I was the one who started this post. After the automatic upgrade to Quantum, I thought I had lost all my bookmarks. It turns out that my bookmarks were simply not shown by default. While I think the developers made a mistake by not showing the bookmarks by default and causing some panic, the fix was relatively simple. Once I had my bookmark situation sorted out, I do find Quantum to be a big step in the right direction.  :) Jay

Hey there, so I decided to try one final time to give Firefox another chance, to see if maybe hopefully whatever issue was preventing me from accessing the last 5-10 years worth of data that I've never had ANY problem with accessing before was fixed. As much as I'd like to say otherwise, I unfortunately cannot say that anything has brought back my bookmarks. And this time upon trying to sync my data with Firefox Sync (something I have used religiously for years now), I was asked to put in my phone number?? Mozilla staff should be absolutely ashamed of themselves, this used to be a brand and name that I would promote and advocate to many other users, who then also moved over to the platform. Trying the above mentioned suggestions did not result in any more or less information available to me than prior to. What a shame, quite disgusting to see yet another company sacrifice user opinion for sheer mainstream conformity.

Recommendation to everyone:

Since Xmarks is gone or going away, KEEP ANOTHER BROWSER INSTALLED ON YOUR MACHINE and manually IMPORT your primary browser's bookmarks (and history if you choose) to it periodically.

That way, if you DO run into problems with your favored browser, you will have a backup.

This has another benefit: it seems ANY browser can encounter SITE issues most easily resolved by moving to another browser. So, keep two or more browsers on your machine for all the above.

Good luck to everyone still using Firefox. I was a staunch advocate and 'apostle' for as long as the browser existed. Mozilla's current direction simply went too far for me so I 'downgraded;' to Chrome and Safari.
