when I add a bookmark, it enters the wrong address, usually a google search term of some kind
I have the latest version of Firefox, running on Debian, using the plasma desktop. I visit a website, but when I add a bookmark to it, I get a google search link instead.
Here is an example from the show all bookmarks window, bookmarks menu.
(Name) LEGO Ideas (Location) https://www.google.ca/search?biw=1333&bih=1057&q=kernel+panic&oq=kernel+panic&gs_l=psy-ab.3.0.0l4.516425.519722.0.523671.12.12.0.0.0.0.437.1315.1j6j4-1.8.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..4.8.1312...0i131k1.0.ps6YvtWWaVU
I can edit this entry, but the next time I show all bookmarks, it will have reverted.
This behavior seems to have started when I attempted to bookmark the Tor Project web site, although that might be a coincidence. I cannot bookmark that site, no matter how hard I try.
I uninstalled firefox and then reinstalled it using apt-get remove followed by apt-get install, but this didn't fix the issue.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
See also:
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file
If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page or Places Maintenance can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
