Clearing cookies in private browsing mode

In support articles here and various threads on other forums, the description of the effects of the Private Browsing mode is that (among other things) cookies are "not saved". I suspect that the authors meant "not saved to disk", with the implication that cookies then get wiped out only when the browser is closed. Am I correct?

If so, is there a way to selectively delete cookies that have been "stored" by a Web site which I accessed through Private Browsing, without closing the browser?

Yes that is correct as to how Private Browsing performs.

No not that I know of. Only thing can suggest is just keep a regular window open and when want to save the cookie paste url into open window and press enter.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thanks for the confirmation.

This is very disappointing. It reveals a presumption by the developers that users are constantly launching and closing the browser, using it to access one Web site at a time. I know people who use it like that, but that is not how I work.

If the browser doesn't wipe cookies from memory when I close a tab, the Private Browsing mode does not provide me with the required privacy.

You can probably use the Storage Inspector to remove all or individual cookies. I'm not seeing PB mode cookies disappear in the Storage Inspector unless I close and reopen the toolbox. I don't know if this is a known bug.

Thanks for the tip and the link. However...

I turned on the "Storage Inspector" and it always shows "No data present for selected host", even on pages where cookies are necessarily present (like my bank) because otherwise the page wouldn't work at all.

Then I tried the same from a normal tab (not PB mode) and the Storage Inspector does shows 4 of the 5 cookies that I can also see in the regular "Show cookies" window via the FF Options menu.
