Let me address the second question first. The OS is provided in something called the user agent string. This normally shows your true OS, but could be changed in one of these ways:

• Firefox shortcut is set to use Compatibility options -- to take full advantage of Windows 7, I suggest clearing that. Please see the attached screenshot.

• An extension is modifying your user agent string -- normally you would only have such an extension either to partially mask your computer's details or for development purposes.

• An old add-on might have stored obsolete information in a preference. This is unlikely since your version number is up-to-date. This article has more info on this problem: How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.

After addressing whatever might be causing the mis-identification, you can check the red text on my test page here:

Returning to the update problem, it could be due to the above issue, or it might be a separate problem -- there are a couple other threads where Windows 7 users are having update issues. I suggest deferring your update until tomorrow to see whether that is resolved by then.

I know the properties question must have sounded strange, but I don't know that I've ever used it before. I didn't uncheck the box, I changed it to Windows 7 compatibility and booted my computer. The download worked fine this time. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.
