I have tried EVERYTHING to save websites from which I want pop-ups enabled -to no avail! Anytime I reboot, my pop-up exceptions list is reset with no sites saved. Please help?

I have a nearly identical machine, Windows 7 OS on both (64bit). One of the machines saves pop-ups just fine. I've tried every trouble-shooting article found w/in the forum on this topic. I have cross-checked each and every setting on the machine that successfully saves my pop-up exception list vs. the machine that NEVER saves my pop-up list. They are identical machines, similar programs/set-ups, et. I use the same FF add-ons for each machine, identical. I've tried FF "refresh", and I've gone so far as to uninstall and re-install (I even tried Revo uninstaller on one of many Firefox un/re install attempts. Exhaustive lengths to make sure previous firefox remnants of profiles past were not used.

What do I have to do here? I have Internet Explorer disabled on both my machines. I use CCleaner to remove temp files. (but again, they are the same settings and one machine works, the other doesn't). I checked my MBAM settings (same on both machines). Currently I don't have any other browsers installed -but I can always "re-allow" Internet Explorer if needed (again, IE is disabled on both machines).

Please help! I'm dying to figure this out!

PS -Both machines do typically state "you are using an older version of Firefox" (like atop this page, or the Firefox plug-in check) -despite both being up-to-date, current 64bit versions. The "educated guesses" about my FF version and OS are incorrect. As of this post Im using FF version 50.0.2, and Adobe Flash Player Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0 v. 23.0.0.207 "up to date". Lastly, both machines were rolled back to windows 7 pro. Actually, neither were rolled back, technically speaking (I just installed Win7 on them b/c I prefer it to 8, 8.1, or 10).

When does the data loss occur?

  • only at Windows startup -- utility software like CCleaner (but possibly something else?) would be the prime suspect in that case
  • every time you exit Firefox and start it up again -- if you have Advanced SystemCare, make sure it isn't locking (rolling back) browser settings

Hi, your System Details shows you are using Firefox v36, which can compromise your security and may cause other problems. To update it, open the 3-bar menu > Help (question mark at bottom right) > About Firefox. Alternatively, you can press the Alt key to bring up the main menu bar > Help > About Firefox. More - Update Firefox to the latest release.

Note, you can check your version by: 3-bar menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information.

You can check for issues with the permissions.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Thanks Scribe. Thanks Cor-el. I'm still figuring it out. Scribe, I know my post was wordy, but w/in the "PS" I note how the "educated guesses" about my FF version, and Operating System were incorrect.

  • This may be a result of having the "User Agent Switcher" Add-On, version 0.1.8.

Cor-el. Thanks for the permissions.sqlite file mention, but I'd tried tweaking it, deleting, uninstalls & reinstalls (clean, no remnants of FF before reinstalls).

I started using "Opera" out of frustration, (cool browser, but I don't have time for the learning-curve at the moment). So I re-installed FF (64bit only, Windows 7), and I'll keep trouble-shooting. I've seen a lot of posts with people having similar issues/problems.

It's got to be an Add-On incompatibility. However, what throws me off is the fact I had the issue on one machine, (nearly identical set-ups/system(s)/installs), but I did not have it on the other.

The problem may be related to having both 32bit and 64bit installed, and/or Java configs (both script and Java). I'm experimenting with different set-ups and I'll report back.

Upon re-installing (Flash, Java, and FireFox) and installing my favorite add-ons -I just noticed the User Agent Switcher 0.1.8 messed up my Firefox "Keep your FF Healthy" plug-in check (noting I had an outdated version).

Makes sense, b/c the add-on is likely built on a dated version of FF.

  • Which brings up another question -would browsing with aforementioned User Agent plug-in, enabled, compromise the integrity of a system (despite running a Current version of FF)?

More to come. Thanks again Cor-el

Hi jscher. Data is lost upon reboot. (again, what's been so confounding is the "seemingly" identical set-up I have with both Windows OS, settings, Firefox (+ add-ons), et., on another machine). That machine's pop-up exceptions list remains populated.

The only exception is both FF 32bit and FF64bit were installed on the machine where I lose the data (the other machine has only 64bit installed). My new installation I only installed the 64bit (as I no longer need the 32). We shall see if that's it. Thanks for your help. If I figure anything out I'll update this post (I've read many other posts where other users have this problem).

Thanks again!

Embarrassing, but I'll cop to it.

CCleaner was the culprit. I could have sworn I double-checked its settings -but apparently I overlooked them. I think CCleaner's default settings are to clear FF "site preferences" -or I marked the checkbox. I like running it at start-up -so there's the answer to my problem.

Sorry to waste anyone's time. Maybe my post will help someone else. Ugh, wayyy too much time spent on a self-inflicted problemo. F***.

Thanks
