Firefox updated this am when I accessed the internet and left a message to provide my email address or 9 digit phone number in order to use Firefox on my phone. Is this a legitimate request by Firefox? I have received messages on the Firefox browser that purported to be from Firefox to download the latest version of Firefox which I later determined were not sent by Firefox.

Firefox updated this am

For the last six months, an epidemic of Fake Update Notices have been popping up all over the place. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/i-found-fake-firefox-update

How was this update done? Did you have to download anything? Firefox does updates within itself.

1. I did not do anything. As soon as I opened the browser there was message saying that Firefox was being updated. Along with the message was a green status bar indicating an update was taking place. After the bar disappeared a message appeared asking for either my email address on 9 digit phone number indicating that it would improve my Android phone website experience. I did not provide any information. 2. I am familiar with the scam reported in the link contained in the email, but this was not the same thing. There was no patch to download. 3. This is apparently a new scam.

It might be fake, or Mozilla trying something new. I called for more help.
