How did this suspicous update page appear? How can I avoid this?
I opened my e-mail (Yahoo webmail) in Firefox, then opened Chrome to play Pandora and opened a VPN connection... when I looked back at Firefox, a new tab had opened with this web site: https://haeranasscom.org/1961165911159/8c6073d96a2cf521e68f99b5891decd8.html which was prompting me to install an 'urgent firefox update'. The web page also had a popup which appeared to indicate that the update had already been downloaded and I just had to install it. The downloads folder has no record of this purported update file, so the whole thing is fishy.
I wanted to quickly post this as a community service, but if there are any suggestions on how to avoid having these kinds of third-party fishing antics appear in Firefox, I'm all ears! This is quite unusual for me to see.

It is a malware offered by some ads, which is try to force you to download a fake Firefox update. Mozilla never offers updates like that, the browser updates itself by using secure connection and maintenance service.
uBlock Origin is effective at blocking that stuff. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
