After update to version 44, the web site SurveyMonkey.com is being blocked and reported as unsafe. I am able to access it without a problem from Chrome. I've discussed the problem with SurveyMonkey, and they insist the web site is safe. Although I can work around it, we have a survey going out to about 500 people, most of whom are not tech savvy. Therefore it's very important that the problem be fixed by Mozilla as soon as possible. Thanks.

Please forgive me for being unresponsive. I had to work on some other projects for a couple of days. Now I have good news for others who might be having difficulties accessing Survey Monkey. I have been in touch with SM and received this reply today: We're in the process of updating our security ciphers to ensure we're supported in the latest browser versions (such as Firefox 44) and aim to have this complete in the next couple days. No one should run into this security message after that point, so this should only be a short-lived issue - thanks for bringing this to our attention. So thank you for all your help. I have tried many of your recommendations and now have a cleaner, but not meaner, Firefox and computer.

The site works fine here with FF44. It still supports the RC4 cipher, which is why it only gets a 'B' rating for the SSL Server Test. https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=surveymonkey.com

But that doesn't cause a problem for Firefox. You'd need to be more specific about the error you get. A screenshot of the error would probably help. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Are you running any kind of security software?

Seems fine on mine. The HTTP link in your post redirects to the secure version:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/

If you try to access the HTTPS access directly, do you still get an error? If so, what is the wording of the error page?

Still not working. I attached the screenshot. I'm using Bitdefender.

Bitdefender has a filtering feature that intercepts all your browsing requests and responses. For secure sites, Bitdefender generates a fake certificate allowing it to be the "man in the middle" and Firefox naturally objects unless it has been set up to trust Bitdefender as a signing authority. If you have been having problems with certificates on multiple secure sites, Firefox might not yet be set up that way.

If it's just this one site, could you investigate further:

Click the "Advanced" button and look for an Add Exception button.

Note: You don't need to complete the process of adding an exception -- I suggest not adding one until we know this isn't a malware issue -- but you can use the dialog to view the information that makes Firefox suspicious.

Click Add Exception, and the certificate exception dialog should open.

Click the View button. If View is not enabled, try the Get Certificate button first.

This should pop up the Certificate Viewer. Look at the "Issued by" section, and on the Details tab, the Certificate Hierarchy. What do you see there? I have attached a screen shot for comparison.

OK, here's what I've done: 1) Clicked "advanced" button in FF. Could not find any "Add Exception" option in any submenu. 2) Also clicked on "Advanced" option on the error page & got this: surveymonkey.com uses security technology that is outdated and vulnerable to attack. An attacker could easily reveal information which you thought to be safe. (Not secure) Try loading surveymonkey.com using outdated 3) Tried accessing again via Chrome. It worked. But if any respondents are using FF44, they might have problems, eh? And I would rather not use Chrome. I appreciate all the help.

Okay, so you have an option to load the page using the outdated cipher. Does that work? Assuming so, I'm attaching a screen shot of my Page Info dialog from Firefox 44 on Windows 7. Could you let me know what yours says?

If you check the connection details in Chrome, what do you see there? In Chrome, click the green lock, then click Connection in the drop-down to see the similar details. A screenshot is attached for comparison.

Hmm, I notice Chrome's screen shot mentions SHA-1. Firefox has an optional setting to reject certificates recently signed with SHA-1 instead of SHA-256. Could you check whether that is turned on in your Firefox?

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sha1 and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the security.pki.sha1_enforcement_level preference is set to a value other than 0 (zero), double-click it and change the value to 0 and click OK

If you changed that, any difference?

If Firefox now accepts the certificate without the intervening error page, could you check the issuer information to see how it compares with my earlier screenshot?

If that isn't relevant, could you check your Firefox connection setting here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options

In the left column, click Advanced, then above the page on the right, Network, then the "Settings" button.

The default of "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your Windows/IE "LAN" settings, and you also could try "No proxy".
