I can't even open the downloaded .gif files on my computer. Not able to upload them to image sharing web sites: because they state the file is corrupted. This has been happening since the middle of the summer 2015 when firefox did an software update. .gif files can only be viewed by internet explorer because that is the coding of the file. Before that summer update, there was no problem and then the next day, I could not view .gif files downloaded with the new version. I even left firefox. Had to completely uninstall it and download another browser, which I don't like to continue my work with .gif files. I have redownloaded firefox and I want to use my favorite browser.

How do I fix this issue with .gif files? My OS is Windows 8.1 and don't tell me to upgrade to OS 10. Will not do it. I've heard too many problems with image software not working properly: even windows error of OS Not Found. So, not going there, don't suggest it.

To find the cause, we must stop certain things from interfering. Firefox in safe mode, computer in safe mode. If the problem goes away, that tells us something.

Have you tried updating Firefox? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version 44.0.2

Install an older version of Firefox {web link}

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there? Starting The Computer In Safe Mode;

Yes, the problem is still there.

What I don't understand is why I'm checking my computer, when downloading .gif files WORKS with no problem with internet explorer and opera browsers. Since it works with those 2 browsers, logically, the issue is with firefox.

Listen please, my computer is NOT the issue.

FIREFOX is the issue.

Update on my computer: two days ago, I took my computer to the microsoft store because the lastest adobe flash update considered my external hard drive to be an extreeme threat and blocked my OS from being able to read my external. I did a system restore to 5 days previous to the flash update and when my computer booted back up, it was dead: the OS had been removed.

The microsoft store recoved half my image files and saved them on a new external drive. I now have Windows OS 64 bit 10 (horrors).

My computer has been CERTIFIED BY MICROSOFT that THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.

So, I go to download a .gif file through my newly installed firefox browser and THE SAME ISSUE EXISTS. MY COMPUTER STATES THE .GIF FILE IS CORRUPTED.

WHEN I DOWNLOAD THE SAME .GIF USING THE NEW INTERNET EXPLORER WHICH IS CALLED MICROSOFT EDGE, THAT BROWSER DOWNLOADS .GIF FILES CORRECTLY WITHOUT CORRUPTING THEM.

So, please STOP trying to say the problem is with my computer

Firefox is the problem. And I need a resolution for this. I hate having to open a different browser to download .gif files.

Hi ChinaDragonDoll, Sorry you continue to have problems with Firefox.

The problem may be with Firefox. But the problem is with Firefox as used and installed on your computer. Others such as ourselves see no issues with uploading and downloading images and gif files on Firefox.

Clearly something is still wrong somewhere on Your Computer, or it would work as well as ours do. You could ask the shop or Microsoft to fix the computer but that would cost you money IF they were even willing to fix it.

Or you could answer our questions and see if we as fellow users of Firefox, giving our time just to help others, can help you to fix it for free.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with my computer. Even Microsoft states there is nothing wrong.

So, I guess I will recieve NO HELP here, because you refuse to believe it's Firefox causing the issue. and provide a solution to the problem.

Here's a thought. JOIN cafemom.com and see if you can download .gif files through that chat client using FireFox.

I don't dowload .gif files from any other location.

Perhaps the issue is with cafemom. They do have coding which is restrictive of .gif files since they stopped allowing their servers to show them back in 2009. The work around is to post the image on a photosharing acct such as photobucket by posting the link to the image. Cafemom didn't want to supply the bandwidth for .gif files anymore. HOWEVER, firefox had no issues with download .gif files corrrectly on cafemom.com UNTIL the update in mid summer 2015: That is when I started experiencing firefox corruping .gif files.

That would be a slightly different question and apparently would involve anyone wishing to test this out registering with that particular site. Maybe someone else will.

Maybe this site will help you

If you find that when you're in the chat client Cafemom.com and are using firefox to dowload a .gif file posted in a conversation thread in one of the groups there and the result is the file is corrupted, then I will KNOW the issue is actually with cafemom.com and hate them forever. lol
