Firefox jumps up and down a line. I can't type into input boxes. Opens find on page bar. Opens multiple win explorer windows. Also in Thunderbird.

Được đăng

When I open Firefox, it will jump a line up and down continuously. I can stop this by hitting esc key. But it will randomly restart.

When I try to type into the search engine box, it will not input there and will open the find in page bar. I can't type into the find in page box then. After multiple tries, I can close the find in page bar. Then sometimes I can type into the search engine box.
Sometimes in an input box, it will suddenly stop typing in that box. Sometimes it opens the find in page, sometimes I seem to be in limbo, and it isn't going anywhere.
I don't seem to have this trouble in Word or Excel. It seems to be only in Firefox and Thunderbird. I don't have IE anymore, so I can't tell you if that is affected also.
It keeps hijacking my home page. Even though Advanced System Care is supposed to protect against that.
Sometimes multiple windows explorer windows will open. Like 20 or so. Then I can't use the bottom taskbar to close the windows or anything else.
These problems follow into Thunderbird. If I select multiple emails, suddenly the page will jump up and down. Sometimes it won't delete messages. I have to highlight them and drag them to the trash bin.
I ran Avast! scan. I use Avast! Pro. Nothing found.
I made an Avast! rescue disk on a new USB thumb drive using a clean computer. Ran the scan. Nothing found.
I have tried Firefox and Thunderbird in safe modes. Still have the problems. I thought for a short time I didn't, but it came back. Drat. I was hoping this was simply an add-on problem. I ran Firefox Health, and it showed 8 startups this month. Seems light to me.... But all the previous startups were quick until recently and then some were quick and at least one was at the top of the scale.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Well, Cor-el, I ran all of the scans you suggested. Sorry for my tardiness in answering, but I wanted to run them all before I got back to you.

As to whether or not I'm fixed, that answer is mixed.

  • Thunderbird seems to be acting just fine.
  • Firefox still is doing the open find in page bar and jumping to it whenever I try to fill an input box. Grrrr.

Here is what was found in all the scans.

Avast rescue disk found nothing.

TDSSKiller found nothing.

Kaspersky found that I had autorun enabled and a few timeouts not set right.

Malwarebytes found nothing.

Superspyware found 740 tracking cookies. It wouldn’t delete them , though. • I tried to do it manually, I think I got them…..

Microsoft Safety Scanner found nothing.

Windows Defender says there is no malware and Windows is running properly.

Spybot found 150 items, none in Thunderbird and Firefox.

Adaware got rid of dozens of registry entries.

Hi, Cor-el,

I know earlier today I said that Thunderbird is OK. I just tried it again, and it is doing the same thing.
So, I was wrong in my optimism.
    Any thoughts?

May I suggest, re-install the programs.

Thanks, Fred, I'll try that. Seems I've seen a link that allows a fresh install. I'll see.

I still can't believe that I don't have some squirrel running around in my system. Even though all those scans say no.

I have downloaded What's Running, and it gave me a huge report. Does anyone know how to read these things? There are literally hundreds of things to track down. There must be some way to distill that report to something a guy can handle.

Thanks, John

Is the file text only? And not huge?

Open a text / word program and load the file. Left click once. Now <Control> A to highlight everything, then <Control> C to copy it.

Next have your browser go to; https://pastebin.mozilla.org. Paste <Control> P the content of the file in the window. Note: On the bottom, choose to save the file 30 days.

Now press Send. The page will reload. Copy the new web address, and post it here.
