should I have a cookie named ui-proxy-path open when I open Firefox?
Each time I start Firefox a cookie with this name is open. Is this a Firefox proxy or an attempt to take over my machine?

This may be from one of your add-ons. Disable any toolbar or protection in the Add-ons Manager. If this still happens, disable a few more. Restart Firefox after each change.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

I tried starting in safe mode and no cookie.
I typically run No Script as an add on.
Not sure how to look inside a cookie.
If by look inside you mean the specifics of the cookie as shown in the options/privacy/remove cookie panel they are as follows
Name: ui-proxy-path Content: remote Host: my IP address Path: / Send for: Any type of connection Expires: At end of session

If you want, there are add-ons that can let you see the contents of cookies. Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
