I just cleared all my history on my Firefox browser and without knowing it, it took all my bookmarks with it. I want to know how to recover all of them. I've never done a backup of Firefox and I just really want them back. I had a lot of ideas for recipes and stuff and I just would like them in my bookmarks folder.

Whoa, that shouldn't happen. Did you use the "Clear Recent History" dialog to clear your history, or some other method?

To see whether this is a loss of data issue or a display issue, could you check your bookmarks in the Library dialog? You can open it using either:

  • "Show All Bookmarks"
  • Ctrl+Shift+b

If you click into the three categories (Bookmarks Menu, Bookmarks Toolbar, Unsorted Bookmarks) can you find anything in them?

If it's all gone, could you try using the Restore feature? This would apply one of your automatic backups. This article has the steps: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.

Well, it was smart to ask before doing something drastic/destructive like using Windows's system restore feature to try to get them back... based on lots of other posts, that seldom goes well.

So are the Bookmarks Menu / Bookmarks Toolbar okay, or do you not use those?

Yea, those seem fine, though I would not know as I never had any pages in there. I just sort bookmarks in folders in Unsorted Bookmarks, ironic, no?
