Firefox auto updated to the latest build which at the time was 40.0.3 on dell laptop running windows 8.1. It crashed and reset and put the old firefox folder on my desktop. I went to youtube and as soon as I load a video for playback it stopped responding , froze and crashed, eventually crashing the computer forcing a reboot. So, I have no addons or spyware or virii but it still will not work on you-tube. will work every place else but not youtube. It will not work in safe mode either. it will not work disabling hardware acceleration. using iobit uninstaller I removed everything and downloaded the full desktop installer and the same thing occurred. I uninstalled it and downloaded a different iteration, water fox, same thing , does not play youtube , It partially functions when using palemoon x64 but errors out often. everything is up to date adobe flash/shock wave Firefox with or without addons and plugins I have been using Firefox since it was devised and never had this happen before. also, youtube plays with other browsers such as chrome and IE. does anyone have an idea what has happened even clean up to date installs crash and become unresponsive on youtube using FF.

Flash bypass alternative extension in Firefox Add-ons, called "Video WithOut Flash" https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-without-flash/ installed it, and disabled Flash.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

If you can't get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter Open the file browser / explorer on your computer. Note: You may have to enable Show Hidden Folders / Files. Enter this in the address bar;

Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win 7/Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/submitted Linux: /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted

Copy the last 5-7 Recent File Names in the folder. Post the information in the reply box below.

fred, thanks for the reply but for some reason the new versions of firefox and their alternates like waterfox once started freeze up my computer so using the task manager I quickly engage iobit uninstaller and completely remove it. Iit appears to become corrupted somehow while on youtube. I get a not responding and then my entire laptop freezes up and I have to reboot, I can no longer use firefox at all, I just dont get it. But, I can use waterfox and palemoon if I stay off of youtube. funny, I can play some of the same videos in waterfox if i find them on metacafe or vimeo or veoh. Go figure!

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

every time I install Firefox and go onto youtube to play a movie it becomes unresponsive and ultimately crashes the computer causing me to reboot. Booting into windows safe mode only tells me what I already know, that there is an incompatibility with the newer builds of firefox and flash and its interaction on my computer. What more can it tell me? safemode disables almost everything and as I said previously, I CAN install firefox and go anywhere and play any video as long as it is not on youtube. However, If I install firefox again and then go on youtube and receive the crash and reboot the firefox is no longer usable and will crash the computer and I then have to uninstall it using an uninstaller anyway.

This is not a cure, but should let the web page load without crashing.

Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it

I am able to use the current version of firefox only if I stay off of youtube. it is the same with waterfox. Using flashblock does not help in anyway. Once firefox crashes inevitably my windows crashes as well. If I stay off of youtube it does not do this. I have never seen anything like this before in all the time I have been using computers. currently, I have been using the most recent version of palemoon x64 with only a slight problem. Is there a vanilla x64 of straight firefox?

well, as far as a straight mozilla firefox browser product goes, I cannot use any 32 or x64 bit straight firefox without it breaking as soon as I get on youtubes landing page. All I have to do is move the mouse to access a movie on youtube and everything crashes. so, I no longer have it installed. However, palemoon 25.7.0 seems to be playing nicely at present,, as that is what I am posting this with. I have tried everything suggested so far and nothing provides a fix to firefox and I refuse to reinstall windows 8.1 on this laptop as that is a complete p.i.t.a. and I should not have to do this just to use a particular version of a browser.

EDIT: Monday 9/21/2015 @9:28 am est

just for the heck of it I installed a fork of firefox, CYBERFOX and imported everything from the original firefox old folder as cyber fox x64 claimed to be compatible with all firefox plugins and addons, and damn it works perfectly. However , no matter what I try I cannot use straight firefox as I spend a lot of time posting to youtube and it will crash as soon as I move the mouse on youtube. well at least I can get some work done.
