"Compact folders" command doesn't work
I am using Thunderbird with the Gmail IMAP server. Thunderbird often loses sync and has to re-download the e-mails from the Gmail IMAP server. That apparently results in the newly downloaded messages being ADDED to the older ones, increasing the size of the file. This morning my Mail directory was over 100 GB!! When I run the command "Compact Folders" (which I do several times per week), the size of the files does not change. But if I select individual mail folders and select "Compact", then I see dramatic reductions in size of the corresponding files up to 98% (for example, 2 GB to 40 MB).
