I am having problems SENDING some emails from my Thunderbird email program since the Wildblue migration. Anyone else with this problem? Wilcblue support states that Thunderbird has not given them permission to link up.

re ; since the Wildblue migration I presume you mean they have changed something like their incoming and outgoing servername. They have recently been moving away from google to their own servers as you are probably aware.

re : Wildblue support states that Thunderbird has not given them permission to link up.

Thunderbird uses their information to set up a connection to their server.

So the forum understands your current setup, please provide the following: In thunderbird: Help > Troubleshooting information Do NOT select the 'Include account name' Clickon 'Copy text to clipboard' button In this question, right click in a 'Post a Reply' box and select 'paste'.

You can edit / remove all the info on fonts and printers, but do not edit anything else.

Account 2 details for both receiving and sending look correct based on their server settings.

Please check the following: Tools > Account Settings > Outgoing server (SMTP) or right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select ' Settings' then select 'Outgoing server (SMTP)'.

You should have only the one listed. the selected outgoing server will display details. Most should be correct, but please check the User Name.

Description : this is for your benefit - you can write anything suitable here. Server Name: smtp.wildblue.net Port: 465 User Name: this should be your full email address Authentication Method: Normal Password Connection Security: SSL/TLS

If anything is wrong, click on 'Edit', make corrections and click on OK. Then click on OK to close and save Account Settings.

Tell me if you needed to correct the UserName.

Then check the password is correct: 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Security' > 'Passwords' tab or 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Security' > 'Passwords' tab

click on 'Saved Passwords' click on 'Show Passwords'

You should see two entries, Mailbox:// and SMTP:// for the mail account and the password for each should be the same. Obviously the mailbox:// is correct as you are receiving mail, so the SMTP one should be identical.

Please confirm the stored passwords are showing for both.

If you made changes to the User Name in Outgoing Server settings, try to send an email. When you try to send an email, what happens? Do you get any error messages? If yes, please tell me the error mesage word for word.

re: I am having problems SENDING some emails Just to clarify: Are you having problems sending SOME emails or ALL emails?

Wildblue has resolved all incoming and outgoing mail issues, except one not covered in my original question. Wildblue support has been unable to sync my Thunderbird and Wildblue Webmail "sent" folders. By that I mean when I send or reply to an email in my Thunderbird it shows in my Thunderbird Sent folder but NOT in my Wildblue Webmail "Sent" folder account at Wildblue server. This has been a problem since the August 4 email platform migration. I think I may have discovered a potential problem while working with you on the account. In my Passwords Tab you sent me to check I show a correct smtp://smtp.wildblue.net, but for the mailbox it shows the old pop as follows: mailbox://pop.googlemail.com. All passwords are correct. Shouldn't that be "mail.wildblue.net" like it is listed under Tools, Account Settings, SERVER SETTINGS? How do I change it? This should be the last of my problems with the migration.

re :mailbox://pop.googlemail.com in Saved Passwords.

Before you do this please read the section below which discusses the 'Sent' folder. You may prefer a different server type, in which case you may end up removing the pop mail account.

Highlight mailbox://pop.googlemail.com for the mail account click on 'Remove' click on 'Close'

Close thunderbird. Wait a few moments for background processes to complete. Restart Thunderbird. When it tries to locate server, it will prompt for password. Enter password and select the option for Password Manager to remember the password.

RE; Sent folder - By that I mean when I send or reply to an email in my Thunderbird it shows in my Thunderbird Sent folder but NOT in my Wildblue Webmail "Sent" folder account at Wildblue server.

You are using a POP mail account. Pop mail accounts can only access the server Inbox and download from server Inbox to mail account Inbox. This is not a Thunderbird quirk, this is how all pop mail accounts work. so Thunderbird knows nothing about the server Sent folder and cannot save anything to that folder on the server.

If you need to use the webmail account when away from computer and therefore need to see 'Sent' emails via webmail account, then POP is not the best option for you. You would need to use an Imap mail account.

you cannot swap a pop into an imap. You would need to make sure Imap forwarding is selected inthe webmail account. Then create a new existing mail account. File > New > exisitng mail account Enter name, email address and password. click on 'continue. Thunderbird will try to locate settings. Check Imap is selected. click on 'Manual config' button Check imap is selected and then make sure all the server name port etc is correct. clickon 'RE-test' button to make sure it is ok. Click on 'Done' to create the imap mail account.

You subscribe to see remote folders. Right click on imap mail ccount name in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe' to see available list. You can also synchronise folders if you want to keep a copy of those folders in yourr thunderbird maila ccount. See info on synchronising:

If you choose to create an imap mail account: if the pop mail account Inbox emails did not leave a copy of message on the server, then you can right click on email and select 'copy to' imap Inbox to put back onto the server by or into 'Local Folders' and then remove the Pop mail account. Copy a few at a time and check they really are seen via webmail. I suggest copy rather than move because if it does not work for some reason, then you still have the original copy in the Pop mail account. If you already leave a copy on the server then you do not need to copy them back.

I think the problem is now solved. Currently I have duplication of accounts, one imap formatted and one pop. As soon as I feel comfortable with the imap account, I will delete the pop setup. I was a little confused on the article about imap synchronization. Are there any other articles or explanations to help me better understand? Thanks for your help in solving this problem. The only thing that confuses me is that when Wildblue used the Google mail platform I had no such problems with the account for over 10 years. Everything was totally synchronized and worked well. The new platform seems more unnecessarily 'needy' in setting it up! I know that I do not like their email program even a little bit. Thunderbird has served me well.

re : Wildblue used the Google mail platform.....Everything was totally synchronized and worked well.

Nothing has changed in how imap mail accounts work. So you should get used to it quite quickly.

IMAP mail accounts allow email clients like Thunderbird to get remote access to all the folders on the server. You 'subscribe' to see those folders, so you can choose to see some or all. Right click on imap mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe' to see available list.

In subscribed (not synchronised) folders, Headers only are downloaded and when you select to view an email, it is retrieved from the server and stored in a temporary cache to enable reading of email. These emails are stored on the server, they are not stored in your Thunderbird profile folder. If you go into offline mode then you will not be able to read emails. Many people are happy with this as it saves them from storing emails on their computer and gives them full access to server folders providing they have internet connectivity and thunderbird is in online mode.

If you choose to synchronise your subscribed folders, then a copy of the folder is downloaded and stored in the Thunderbird imap mail account folder. These emails are still stored on the server, but you do have a copy in thunderbird profile folder. If you go into offline mode then you WILL be able to read emails. Synchronised folders are constantly being updated to reflect what is on the server. As synchronised folders keep a copy in Thunderbird, it is easy to create a backup of your Profile folder.

So, synchronising means a copy of the folder is downloaded; not just headers and from then onwards there is a constant checking between the imap mail account folder(s) and the same folder(s) on server to make sure they are the same. You cannot assume the downloaded copy of folders in imap mail account is a backup because it is a synchronising folder, but you can make a backup of those synchronised folders.

You select to synchronise via your Account Settings: 'Tools' > 'Accounts Settings' > 'Synchronising & Storage' for imap mail account or right click on imap mail account and select 'Settings' then select: 'Synchronising & Storage' for imap mail account

selecting 'Keep messages for this account on this computer' will synchronise all your subscribed folders.

However, you may only want to synchronise specific folders. In which case, uncheck 'Keep messages for this account on this computer' and click on 'Advanced' button. Select the folders you want to synchronise. Full instructions with helpful images are here:

Worth remembering: If you delete an email in Thunderbird imap folder then it will be deleted off the server. If you delete an email in webmail then it is deleted off server and will also be removed from Thunderbird imap mail account.
