Try to open a page from an email (trusted) to view offer etc. Will not allow page to open. Gives message Error connecting to Apache Tomcat instance. How can I fix this? Happens often

Is this problem always on the same site?

Does the page load if you reload (Ctrl+r)?

If instead of clicking the link you copy/paste it to the address bar, does that work any better?

What if you paste into the address bar of a private window (Ctrl+Shift+p) and try it there?

More than one site involved but always when trying to open a site from link. Trying the Ctrl+r has doesn't help. Have tried to copy and paste to no avail. Okay I just tried your last suggestion of (Ctrl+Shift+p) and that did indeed work. Thank you. Does this indicate a specific problem that can be fixed or do I need to just always use what you just suggested?

The main difference between a private window and regular window is that the private window doesn't use any previously cached files or previously saved cookies.

When you have a problem with one particular site (in a regular window), a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try the problem link again. Any improvement?

I did all the other you suggested and retested opening the page normally. No go. The only way seems to be by using the private window option. Thanks
