After upgrading to 40.0 now a couple of websites I go to often will no longer load the website are as follows http://www.earthcam.com/usa/michigan/grandhaven/lakemichigan/?cam=lakemichigan

http://www.earthcam.com/usa/michigan/stjoseph/?cam=stjoelighthouse

I do not know why they will no longer load. I go to a machine that has version 28.0 on it and they load just fine. So it has me confused as to how to get it to work again in this version.

Thanks Jay

Great View ! !

I used your links, and they worked fine. (v39)

Try clearing the cookies for the websites concerned and use the direct links as in your post rather than any bookmark and then use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F5 to refresh the cashed items.

You will need FlashPlayer enabled. What exactly happens. Do you get at least the website itself loading? Do you get any error messages ?

P.S. It worked on Fx39 & Fx41

I cleared everything and then tried the site again and still get the same thing it says loading HD stream and it just keeps going at that but nothing ever loads.

Well I got it fixed now, I remove version 40.0 and put on 38.0 and now it all works again like it did before. So there is some kind of a problem in 40.0 so I will not do the update again I will leave it where it is at right now so that things will work.

OK, so this is not resolved and we are seeing a lot of these kinds of reports with the latest updates of Firefox. The problem has to be escalated and thanks for your post.

Hi Dingaroo Any more info on that. This particular issue in this thread is reported initially as not working on Fx40. I do not have Fx40 available right now, but it Worksforme on Fx39 & Fx41 & for fred on Fx39.

Are the problems you see relating to Fx40 or Fx39 ? & presuming you are talking about this forum could you give links to some examples. I will if necessary start further discussions elsewhere, or do whatever is necessary to escalate the issues you are discovering.

Note of course that FlashPlayer often causes problems and has just had a major security issue requiring users to upgrade to the latest Flashplayer version as found from https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ so what you see may not be anything abnormal for the support forum. We only get questions because some people in the 1/2 Billion userbase will have problems.

By the way. Do the links in the original post work for you or not ? Please have a try with

Hi Jay, Its good that you can see the pretty camera feed but it is not a particularly good or safe solution downgrading to insecure Firefox 38.

These feeds work for others and I am sure we can get it working for you. I suggest as a better alternative.

  1. Upgrade to the current Release of Firefox which at the moment is Fx39
see Update Firefox to the latest release
Use that for day to day browsing.
  2. Install as an additional browser the unofficial but respected third party build Firefox Portable ESR. Use that to view the problem sites with web cam feeds.
    Information and installer download from:
  3. Should you wish to test any pre relese versions of Firefox note it is good practice to use a separate Firefox profile for each version. See:

We should be able to help you fix the issue with Fx39 and the webfeed because two of us have already shown they work on Fx39.

Hi John,

Glad you picked up on my comment - as intended. Was throwing up whether to raise it in Contribs. Forums and then noticed that you are working on it here, but wondered how wide is the scope of the investigation into this problem, so I posted my comment.

I am running Fx 39 - OS Windows 7 Prof. and the links did work for me which I tested when tddybear first posted them. I agree, some of these problems could be the Adobe issue, but not all appear to be, including my own, which then throws doubt on whether Flash is the sole cause. Insufficient consistency.

Yes, I am concerned at the number of posts which are reflecting a page loading problem - with similarities but variations, since the most recent Firefox updates - several report seeing a black blank screen. I have personally also experienced exactly that myself - several times this week. These recent Support queries show all but one still remain unresolved as per below:

Those are likely about a known bug on Mac

  • Bug 1180688 - On OSX 10.10 yosemite VM everything renders as black or white except popups/panels

That page needs the Flash plugin, so make sure that you allow Flash.

Did you look for the Lego block icon at the left end of the location/address bar?

You can get a possibly colored Lego block icon on the left end of the location bar that indicates that Firefox is blocking a plugin.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:

Problem is that the System Details, show us that only three are Mac users. The rest are Windows PC's.

I have this week myself, visited web sites which do not require Flash and experienced the very same black/grey blank screen. I run Windows 7 and not a Mac. This is why I am not convinced by some of the arguments being put forward.

Firefox 40.0 is not the latest update as it is still on the Beta channel as Firefox 40.0b4 and there can be six to twelve Beta builds of a version. The latest on Release channel is still Firefox 39.0 released on July 2nd as can be seen at www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Eh? Don't understand the purpose of your remark, particularly given that I am referring to similar reports for the latest updates and, even so, the problem still must be resolved in BETA, being the whole purpose of BETA testing. Can we stick to focusing on the problems, rather than on the people?

Dingaroo, (and other helpers) Thanks. I note you have already started the thread /forums/support-forum-contributors/711430

tddybear| Jay

Sorry about the distraction whilst we talked amongst ourselves. Please post back again in this thread if you would like any further help or advice.

My post further up has alternative suggestions as a workaround, and corel's #answer-757153 has additional troubleshooting tips to help you.

As for the Beta and other channels. Great if you want to test them out but they are for testing and not general use.

As a bit of background info: There are three separate channels and the majority of Firefox changes go through each one in turn. We've been doing this for 4 years now and the original explanation still makes sense

Was working on 39.0.3. First computer updated tp 40.0. Website no longer works. Second computer still on 39.0.3 website still works. Seconds computer updates to 40.0, Website no longer works. This is a FF issue. Trusted. Flexible. Fast, Broken. :(

Hi Starwanderer,

Like you say it could be a problem on Firefox 40 using some web cams for some people. Please post your own question in your own thread and try to follow the prompts to provide full System information.

The thread owner no longer seems to be interested in this so I am closing the thread. Please use /questions/new/
