Hi - when i turned on my mac this evening, (i used it this morning & everything was as usual) a stranger named Eric Diaz's facebook profile has been added to the very front of my bookmark toolbar in mozilla! - can you offer any help as to how the hell this is possible while my mac was switched off all day? Thanks Sam

That is odd. A new bookmark should be posted at the bottom of the list. Have you noticed anything else?

Hi - thanks no nothing, no folders on my desktop have been viewed while i was out at work, so it seems like my physical desktop is untouched... currently running a virus scan which so far seems to be going well... when i switched on after i ate dinner, the firefox app had (as it sometimes does) not quite closed down fully before my mac shut down, which sometimes results, helpfully in firefox asking if i'd like my previous session restoring - this message came up tonight when i swtiched on - seemingly then, no one, or at least no one on this particular imac has been using my firefox today... power was fully off all day... & i just realised that infact, x2 facebook profiles have appeared on my toolbar, not just the one - these are the people... many thanks for any advice... ...& yes, well spotted that's what i 1st thought about the location order on the toolbar... Now, I DID used to have my old facebook profile & a work 'page'/group bookmarked i THINK in those 2 places on the toolbar, or pretty much there, several months ago, before closing down my old facebook ( no security problems, just due to wanting to have less friends & not offend the people who thought i had left facebook completely) - is it possible that my firefox is trying to replace those old deleted bookmarks & replacing them with random peoples profiles, seeing as the old account/page does not exist anymore?

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

Thank you very much - do I just keep an eye on my emails?

I don't know much about this.

...well I WAS only responding to your comment about calling the big guys to help you - you can surely understand my presumption that you would yourself know, what YOUR OWN SENTENCE MEANS yes? but then i am crazy with the logic like that. thanks for the vagueness.

HI thefairytalehistorian, FredMcD was trying to help. The escalate tag in the forum flags contributors that are interested in answering harder questions as well as staff to see what can be done to help the thread.

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.

In the meantime about your issue, please contact a investigative service to find out more about those profiles. Firefox is a client not a service. These entries that are unidentifiable may have more information in the cookies or history from the time they were accessed or stored in your cache.

Can't you remove this bookmark, assuming that this is a bookmark?

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Do you have Firefox set up to sync your bookmarks with an online service or any other devices? That could be Mozilla's Sync service (which is set up through Preferences, if you set it up) or Xmarks or another third party service.

Please temporarily minimize all add-ons, as follows:

Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Cmd+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

I understand thank you, I'm sure you can see the redundancy of beginning to help a person & then refusing to even explain anything further upon ejecting the situation though - in Freds case, his comment of calling in the big guys... meanwhile with no Mozilla staff in sight... Forgive me for asking. ...to be clear - you say 'Firefox is a client'? of whom? - Mozilla? & just what baring can you explain that has on this situation? You stated it but with no relevancy to this - is that suggesting I need to take the issue up with someone else? Mozilla's website - more than anywhere else directed me here as a 1st port of call, for them to have that dependency on volunteers is not your fault. This, 'support' has been a waste of time entirely, so that system isn't working very well... I posted here due to a complete lack of data on my exact issue. After all this time, where are the staff? Think I'll un-install & use another browser & change all my passwords, seeing as mozilla's idea of help is a wall of confusion from members of the public - as for the very helpful suggestion of an, 'investigative service' - again, that's amazingly vague - are these services performed by wizards? Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the guessing games a lot & especially how they boost your ego without you having to have said ANYTHING helpful - but I am going to go & ask a professional now. Take care wont you.
