Hello Seymour

I'm sorry you are having difficulties.

Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks and saves the last ten backups for safekeeping. This article describes how to restore your bookmarks from the automatic backups that Firefox creates, how to save and restore your own bookmark backup files : Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

Please let me know how it goes.

Hi Seymour, how often does this problem occur? For example, every time you exit Firefox and start it up again, or every time you shut down and start Windows up again, or weekly, or randomly. If there is any kind of pattern, that may be helpful in tracking down the cause of the problem.

Are you using the Firefox Sync service to copy bookmarks and other data between different installation of Firefox? If you use Sync and the problem keeps returning, you might need to break the connection with that account until all your various Firefox's are straightened out.

Are you using Sync to sync the bookmarks?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync (temporarily) while performing maintenance/repair efforts to the places.sqlite database.

Many thanks Michael. I got them restored OK, & now do a manual back-up at the end of each session. Your help was much appreciated. Seymour.
