Hello,

A few days back when I logged on to Mozilla, the google page opened (it is set as my home page). Immediately after that it switched over to another page which stated my Adobe Flashplayer needed update. I checked from the logo etc the post seemed authentic and I clicked on it.

From that moment on my google page has stopped responding totally. When I type www.google.com it takes me to the page which either says "warning, your flashplayer may have become out of date". i clearly think this is not genuine and that some sort of virus has infected my systems. What is worse is that when I am trying to log onto google from my android phone's mozilla application, the same thing happens.

A strange thing however is that I can access google when i type http://64.233.161.100/ in my address bar.

Please help me resolve this problem.

Regards.

Maybe the Android phone is synced to your PC and picking up false information. You may need to pen another separate question about that, but let's try to sort out the computer first.

It could be a malware problem.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Hello,

I have already scanned it using MalwareBytes. There were some malware that was detected and cleaned. But even after that the problem persists.

Regards.

It is worth trying with all the suggested tools. Once you get malware or adware it can start to multiply and different tools detect different things.

If that fails try a clean reinstall and start in Firefox's safemode from fresh additional profile and with all plugins disabled. (Do NOT delete the original profile you will need it) You could use the Refresh option instead of creating an additional profile. That is simpler initially but may create more work later.

Please say how you get on and what you try, or the problems you run in to.

Please read the help articles

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Any time you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the web site of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to Mozilla.org. {web link}
