After updating to v38.0.1 why is everything now delayed 3 seconds (key strokes, clicks, even the download wheel jerks instead of spins)?

It seems like there is an anchor around all my input. Each key stroke delays 3 seconds or longer before showing on the screen and the same with mouse clicks and even the download wheel indicator jerks instead of smooth spins. I've tried to reload and refresh but neither helps. I've put it in safe mode with add-on's disabled and then it works fine. Just turning off the add-on's by themselves does nothing to help though. This is unacceptable. I need a fix or a way back to my old version or I'll have to do the unthinkable (spelled google chrome). I'm running on Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.

Hello Ralph17, try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Open Firefox Options page as follows, click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options.
  2. In the Firefox Options tab, click the Advanced tab, then select General.
  3. In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  4. Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Note that in safe mode except for the disabled extensions, hardware acceleration is off also. :-)

Thank you.

Ideato,

Right on with both ideas. Thanks. After disabling the hardware acceleration things were fine. I went and downloaded the latest graphics driver and enabled the hardware acceleration and things are working fine. Thanks for the help!
