the above just happens too often and im getting crashes [sorry] doesn't cut it . your stay signed in works about as well as a screen door on a submarine. i can see an occasional check to sign in, but it is sad when i have to jump hoops just to do a quick check on my emails. i purposely wanted to get away from google chrome as it is too invasive . i want privacy and i dont expect my wife to know what she is probably getting as the next gift by looking at advertisement at right of screen . i would like firefox to work please correct these problems. your commitment to a open internet would be nice. even putting so much information under signing to get to a comment page is a little much, an email addy should be sufficient. Simple works best ,easy to track your own data and rectify any problems. The time storing , sorting and reading data that has nothing of relevance diminishes productive work load and execution.

Generally speaking, "Stay signed in" works by setting a persistent cookie. The default settings are for Firefox to retain cookies for as long as sites want, but it's easy to change that in settings, or using add-ons, or to override it by using a private window or clear it using external software.

Let's start with settings. This support article describes how to liberalize cookie settings for maximum site compatibility: Websites say cookies are blocked - Unblock them. Is that what you have now? If you prefer something more targeted, you can handle particular sites (e.g., google.com) differently than your default rule -- we can describe that if you're interested -- but if you set Firefox to clear cookies at shutdown, then that would include even your Google cookies.

Obviously Firefox should not crash. When Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment -- you should see the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog come up. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the last section of the support article "Firefox Crashes" for steps to get those crash IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.

i have my cookies saved and again today i need to fill in gmail addy my password and user name, but again i go to chrome and it isn't required with google chrome ,it is the very same machine the settings are the same in firefox and chrome yet on firefox i get fill out the form before I can look at google email . in firefox cookies are set to be accepted until they expire. my yahoo mail works fine with both firefox and chrome I don't need to sign into yahoo so one would think if yahoo works in both so should gmail. This is sent from Chrome browser, because i have to sign in to fireox yet again, very frustrating.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

You may have a corrupt cookies.sqlite file.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the cookies.sqlite file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

They all have BP in front of them:

The files listed are: cookies.sqlite cookies.sqlite.bak cookies.sqlite.bak-rebuild. I tried deleting the cookies.sqlite file but I think the cookies.sqlite.bak-rebuild rebuilds it. In any case when I reopened firefox It was the same I still have to sign in all the time.

The crash report flagged these programs;

firefox

libgstaudioconvert.so = Gstreamer

libmad.so.0.2.1 = VLC media player for Linux

libgstmad.so = GStreamer Ugly Plug-ins

libgstcoreelements.so = GStreamer

libgstaudio-1.0.so.0.403.0 = Gstreamer

libgstplayback.so

liborc-0.4.so.0.22.0

libgstbase-1.0.so.0.403.0

libgstreamer-1.0.so.0.403.0

and more

All of the above have to do with Gstreamer. I recommend you you download the current full installer. Remove the current Gstreamer. Restart your computer. Then start Firefox. Are there any problems? After, reinstall Gstreamer, and check Firefox again.
