Sorry to hear about that, it definitely should not happen.

Have you noticed any other changes in Firefox?

Is it possible that during the upgrade you might have used Firefox's Refresh feature? This can happen when Firefox starts up slowly and says in order to make it less sluggish you can refresh/restore the browser. The best indication is that an Old Firefox Data folder appears on your desktop.

If you have that folder, please let us know as it might be useful for data recovery.

Hi, I was using the previous version of Firefox (probably 35 or 36) happily using history, bookmarks, and a full bookmarks bar. I'm also on Mac Snow Leopard and using historic Firefox look via the what's-it-called Previous View Restorer with the Browser title on top where it belongs..

The popup said 37.0.1 is available so I updated to this. Now all my history, my bookmarks are gone and the bookmarks bar is empty.

I'm not at all happy, I've had similar problems in the past, this six week frenetic schedule for updates is simply not reliable... and it doesn't tell you if this is a minor or major update which I need to know. Firefox has become very untrustworthy and needs to go back to normal updating. Then you'll maybe regain lost market share.

How do I get all my history back.

Thanks in advance for your help, Cris.

Hi CrisBCT, it's strange that you just had this problem 4 months ago in this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1036336

Is it possible that during the upgrade you might have used Firefox's Refresh feature? This can happen when Firefox starts up slowly and says in order to make it less sluggish you can refresh/restore the browser. The best indication is that an Old Firefox Data folder appears on your desktop. If you've used Refresh/Reset before, there may be multiple old settings folders inside, but one would have a very fresh modification date.

Hi juscher, Thanks for your reply. Last time I did NOT do a Refresh either.

So nope. A popup appeared saying new version available click here. since it was already a bug-fix 37.0.1 I clicked. It downloaded in less than a minute and I pressed restart button. That's it, and it was very quick. Then nothing in the empty bookmarks bar, and no history. Not even able to reload previous session... Nor adblock plus visible. Nothing unusual on desktop either.

So it seemed straightforward until I noticed everything was missing... warm regards, Cris

Hi Cris, at this point I think the last post in your previous thread might be the next step: to run a utility to repair the places database in case it has become damaged.

Thanks jscher,

I again "Restored from backups" my bookmarks as described on the page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them and now my bookmarks are back. This is what I did last time, and it's worked again this time.

The big question of course is: What's causing their loss in the update Firefox process...

As requested before, Firefox badly needs an UNDO button to revert it to the way it was before the update was installed. This is a serious request and would help stop the loss of users I understand Firefox is experiencing...

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Cris

Hi,

I'd like to mark this problem as solved and your suggestion to look at what worked last time as the most valuable, but there are no buttons to do so.

Actually, my previous post described what I did to recover my bookmarks, so that's actually the best solution.

thanks again for all your help, over and out. Cris

Hi Cris, I appreciate the idea of an UNDO button, but it's not likely to be able to undo something that wasn't supposed to happen. During an update, normally nothing happens to the places.sqlite database which stores bookmarks. Such problems are extraordinary events and since we haven't even figured out the cause of it in your case, I'm not sure how the developers would avoid or reverse the cause.
