It's been doing it consistently for two days now on FF. Going to the exact same (copy/paste) link using safari results in NO CRASH.

I checked my FF plugins and it says its up to date. I am tired of closing out FF and restarting it to get it to work a for a couple of times. Is mozilla working on this?

Thank you.

Well, I lied, closing out FF and restarting doesn't help. Last time I updated faster than usual to 36 thinking it would solve the flash crashes. Nope, nada, nil. So, unless the mozilla powers that be can guarantee updating to 37 now will fix it, I will hold off cuz I don't need any more bugs, changes or removals of features I like.

Do you want to share the crasher link? Did you try running Firefox in Safe mode?

more options

What is a crasher link? Is it the send crash report link? If so, I sent the report each time, but there was no link location.

As for safe mode, no I haven't. To be honest, running is safe mode has never ever helped troubleshoot anything in FF ever, including flash crashes. FYI, I've been using FF since v. 3.6.

The last section of this article shows how to use the about:crashes screen to copy crash report ID links so you can paste them into a reply: Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly).

I must be having a blond moment, lol. I'm not seeing anything that refers to flash crashing in the link. I am sorry if I'm not understanding. I'm not a techie type. It's not FF that is crashing, it's flash. My OS is updated and, according to FF, so is my flash player. I just tried it again and took a screen shot, but it's 200 kb too big and I have no idea how to make a screen shot smaller on a mac. (I'm a brand new user and searching for a way now.)

Flash has been crashing since v. 35 and it's getting worse. I'm not all that enamored with the idea of updating again given all the negative comments I've read about v. 37. *sigh*

more options

Are there negative comments about Firefox 37? The ones I've seen recently are that some secure sites that use an older encryption cipher will no longer work, and some third party system themes for Windows seem to cause graphical glitches. Every version has some new issues and fixes some old ones.

Anyway, the point of the last section of that article is to get the crash report IDs and post them here so we can look at some data on your crashes.

It happens in safe mode. :-((

I hope this link takes you to the report. https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/f3af7c55-052a-4f5e-a995-cfabe2150406

It's got to be connected to FF because same videos & URLs don't crash on Safari.

Thank you for the crash report. There is a bug report linked to it, where the present view appears to be that this occurs with this combination:

  • Firefox 34 and later
  • Flash 17 [released 3/12/2015]
  • Retina display
  • Possibly only with hardware acceleration enabled in the plugin

If you want to try disabling hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin, right-click the media playing and choose Settings, then the first mini-tab and uncheck the box to use hardware acceleration. More information in this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

Or if that's impossible or unhelpful, you could temporarily switch from Flash 17 to the Extended Support Release version of Flash 13, which Adobe makes available about 2/3 of the way down this page:

https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

You probably need to remove Flash 17 first as the installer for Flash 13 probably will be reluctant to replace a higher version with a lower one. However, I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of installing/uninstalling on Mac.

@CallyCat: by "Crasher link" I meant the link to a page that makes Firefox crash.

But jsher2000 is correct: your problem seems already known, so it should be resolved rather sooner than later. Meanwhile, you may simply disable Adobe Flash plugin on that page by visiting the Permissions tab of that page's Page Info dialog and setting the Shockwave Flash setting to "Always ask", if this plugin is not critical to operation of that page.

Thank you Runas Jydekus and jsher2000.

jsher2000, this is a link to a thread about the v. 37 issues I found when looking for some help w/the flash problem. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1048978?fpa=1#answer-preview

Thank you for infor on the known problem and for the links. I will check them out. I will be out of pocket for a while, but will check back in a couple of weeks.

Rimas Kudelis, thank you for the additional information!

Hi CallyCat, there is a wide range of issues in that thread, but no one mentioned Flash so I think your issue is different than theirs.

Actually, only two posts were about Firefox 37. shadyz later discovered a conflict between Download Statusbar and Session Manager. I don't know what the story is with tomtomdecrab's Bookmarks Menu. That's truly bizarre. Hopefully a little database maintenance and restoring a backup will fix it up.

Anyway, Firefox 37 has only been out for a week, so we probably don't know how it will impact everyone at this point.

Thanks, jscher. I think I'll wait to update to 37.
