Adobe Flash Player and pluggin 16.0 r0 constantly stops working
For a couple of days now firefox and adobe flash player/pluggin 16.0 r0 will not function properly at all. If I end up on a site like youtube or other sites with similar functions, I get bombarded repeatedly with this message and can't do anything about it. No matter which option I click to exit this box, be it the "X', "Check online for a solution and close the program" or "Close the program" the same message just pops right back up. Again and Again and Again until finally I'm fast enough to close out my tabs before the next one comes. I've attempted to remedy it by turning off the hardware acceleration but I can't actual access the control panel to turn it off without this pluggin working. I'm not sure what caused this, nor how to remedy it, I would be really grateful for some help. Hope ya'll have a good Thursday.

Oh I should clarify. The "Never Activate" setting neither caused nor fixed the crashing/"stopped working" problem. It was a temporary remedy to limit the frequency of the "Adobe Flash Player 16.0 r0 has stopped working" messages that came up. I had Version 17 activated, but when it caused a practically identical message to pop up incessantly, I did the same thing, changing the setting to "Never Activate"
It was the disabling protected mode which solved the problem and helped the flash player to work again without stopping or bringing up this message at all.
The problem which occurred afterwards where the websites could not see that flash was installed on my computer was solved by changing the "never activate" to "ask to activate". Just wanted to clarify if anyone else needs to use this thread.

Try uninstalling Flash from the control panel and then install version 17 from here. Make sure to choose Windows 8 and Firefox.

I'm afraid that did nothing except to change the message constantly popping up from "Adobe Flash Player 16.0 r0 has stopped working" to "Adobe Flash Player 17.0 r0 has stopped working" Thank you for trying, is there anything else you know that might do the trick? It's also causing problems with my online homework. I need help.
Another feature that is occasionally the cause of crashes is the plugin's Protected Mode feature. That has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.

Good new is this does appear to have solved the constant crashing problem. Thank you! Unfortunately now I'm having this new problem. I have installed Adobe Flash Version 17 three times now, but from my online homework site it keeps saying I don't have it installed at all and asks me to install it. I'm not sure how to make it understand I do have flash.
What site is that on?

Okay everything's fine now. Here's what happened.
The only way I could get certain sites to function reasonably was to go the firefox menu->ad-ons-> plugins -> and then opt. for "Never activate" on Adobe Flash player 16 and then 17. I originally assumed this setting was not the problem since both my homework site (Pearson's mastering genetics) and the adobe test page (see below) attributed the problem to flash not being installed on this computer at all. Flash was, in fact, installed just not activated. I have since changed that setting to "Ask to activate" and everything is working without any more hiccups so far. Thank you so much for the help!
Hi efrost3, thank you for reporting back. "Ask to Activate" is the setting I use, too. If you encounter a page where you don't see an obvious link to Activate Flash, you can click the Lego-like plugin notification icon toward the left end of the address bar.
