Can the Bookmarks bar be hidden on active tabs & ok on new tab?
To save screen display area, is there some way to have the bookmarks tab viewable on a "New Tab" and have is disappear on an active tab. Be great if the menu bar did the same.

Not with any settings that are built into Firefox.
Have you looked for an add-on with that feature? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
As far as the Menu Bar goes. are you aware that when the Menu Bar is hidden it can be brought up with the Alt key and the F10 key. And the keyboard commands (underlined letters) will work.
