UPdate Firefox 36 multiple problems errors
WOW long time Mozilla Firefox user, but new update just keeps getting better and better ( NOT!) It took away my icons bookmarks etc, and started giving me forbidden access errors for websites and would not let me open sponsor links in Amazon, and would not let me re- download updated yahoo tool bar, and I could go on and on, but the point is: this was NOT beta version, its the real deal and all it is ends up being more trouble than its worth! WHY oh WHY must Mozilla update and yet make it all worse for it's users? I spent hours trying to find work arounds, etc, and finally have been forced to go back uninstall it and install the Mozilla 35 version that might not be perfect, but it works and so does all my stuff work in it. The other thing, I do the syncing, but that does not help get anything back and I do the mozbackup ( software program) but it would not fix the issues Mozilla firefox 36 has.
So I guess like many others, I will have to wait around till its been out awhile and see if same issues, then go back to 35 if all else fails. This is why I stayed so long on FF 17 or 19 anything to keep from updating, but I know I know, its about security blahblah blah... so i finally break down and update, but always always always to my dismay it takes me hours to get things back or get them right or lose them altogether frankly I wish there would be no final update until testing is really done, i know you can't help what add on's etc we have as there are so many, but beyond those crashes or not working add on situations, there are problems with this update ( and so many of them) so can you please fix them before you put this stuff out there for us to use???

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
- Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Thank you, but I am thinking that just keeping MFF 35 for now will serve me best. I have already spent hours trying to get 36 to work. Perhaps they will figure things out in a few months, then I will try again to update. I have far too many extensions and themes to go thru that process of turn off and on and go down the list to figure out which of so many may be the cause. I did read others who had found their yahoo toolbar gone as did I after updating, and also who had tried to download the yahoo toolbar but it wouldn't download with the new update, so I expect that the amount of time to figure that out will be significant.
Thanks for your reply.

Yes---I learned my lesson. I will wait SEVERAL months before I upgrade to a new version of firefox!! Some moderator was talking earlier that we shouldn't have downloaded the Beta version. As someone abouve stated it WASN'T a beta version! Quite annoying!

you tube is Not my problem/issue.
I have the yahoo Toolbar problem, too. Only the mail icon appears. FF will not allow me to update the toolbar either. I tried again yesterday, and my personas wouldn't work. They weren't gone, but none of them worked. I had to download them again to get them to work. AATTP comments still won't load, and they do on Pale Moon and in Comodo Ice Dragon. I also have too many extensions to go down the list, and I have had to do that way too often lately. . . .
This is a comment that I am posting, not a solution.

i dont c easy youtube video downloader now.....guess i was lucky! Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express by Dishita Keep these tips in mind: this i copied....it is 8.0///////// Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express 8.0 No Restart by Dishita
Only one with 1080p Full-HD and 192kbps MP3 Direct Links. A clean, fast and simple addon for superfast and easy downloads in FLV,3GP,MP3,MP4,720p, 1080p qualities on Youtube pages.
I'm still on FF24. Why? Because with each new update Firefox features are either removed, hidden or just buggered-up. And, of course, many FF add-ons become obsolete in newer versions of the browser.
You learn through experience to be extremely wary of updates, whether they be Android apps, Windows or FF. If you're fairly happy with what you've got then you do NOT update, or make sure everything's backed up (FF profile) if/when you find stuff buggered-up.

I'm conflicted. When I see the standard response from bkerensa (et al.) about expecting users to go into safe mode and spend an age in unfamiliar territory, yes I can see the sense in this when an individual has a problem with ff.
What irks me is that recent firefox updates have been breaking extremely popular add-ons (well, popular with me and a lot of others), on a fairly regular basis. And for Heaven's sake they even broke session recovery recently and didn't seem to see the slightest urgency about the problem. (I dread to think what might have happened if some bunch of devs had concocted a similar bug-up in my days in the City. But the wretched thing would have been reverted straight away until it was sorted out, pdq.)
Then what irks me more is people telllng me to go to safe mode, when this removes the addons which I want to get working again. It's not particularly helpful. It's the perfectly good addons which are not working any more because Firefox has 'changed something' and broken them. And of course you can't see them not working in safe mode. Well, it might just be helpful, but what we be more helpful would be for Firefox devs to acknowledge they have broken things. (I've had to restrain myself there from writing in CAPITALS.)
And I've also had to restrain myself from calling the nice volunteer helpers bad names, because I feel they, too, haven't engaged brain.
To be clear again: you can't test to see if addons are working by using safe mode to take them away. I am exasperated that I can't put that more obviously. But I didn't use CAPITALS, which probably wouldn't have helped.
Mozilla has this wonderful system of getting lovely volunteers to help out when users have problems, and when things go wrong. It means that insane developers can be thoroughly insulated from the ire they occasion when they insouciantly break things, and can just carry on regardless. Because of course, they know best.
And of course, addons which they break are none of Mozila dev's concern. How could they be?
But I feel it necessary to re-iterate, at least it was my understanding, that Firefox is a collaboration between the central crew of developers & designers and all the add-on writers, and the users. Not just the super-clever devs on their own, who seem to feel free to break things at will, because no-one else matters to them. Not to mention the designers. Oh Lord, not the designers. (Am I being unfair?)
So, the poor bloody users in their thousands find that addons on which they rely no longer work. That Firefox is broken and wretched. And we end up here being told to try safe mode (well, it might help, like a magical incantation).
It's as if Mozilla has become indrawn, depressed and suicidal. It just doesn't care any more.
I for one don't want to lose it.
I want Mozilla to acknowledge that they have something of a duty to others, to ensure they don't break things for almost everyone, and that they can't just shove the blame off onto add-on developers when they make fixes nigh-on impossible. And I want them to work out that they carry on acting selfishly the way they are going, firefox supporters will just be forced to leave.
But it's almost pointless saying so here, because only the nice volunteers are here on the front line, in the trenches. Those responsible for fiasco are miles away , behind the lines. And not listening.
Safe mode, indeed.

Malcontent, I couldn't agree more and I know how very frustrated you feel. I am still getting the hey " update to 36" but trying to keep on ignoring it because its just going to send me down the 'rabbit hole' and I have been there toooooo many times ( i want to use caps too but will refrain)... it is time for Mozilla to own up to the breakage and then take responsibility to fix it. Amen to that!
I am going to go along with everything said, my issues only started with the newest 37 version ,but have surpassed anything I could've imagined ,with all of my session manager sessions being blanked out and FEBE not working properly as described in detail in my thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1054971

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

This is exactly why I wait weeks to update. 36 has enough problems to drive an insane person batty.
@CallyCat and tomtomdecrab If the above information does not resolve your issue, please consider creating a new thread containing the specific details of your issue.
Doing so will allow the Mozilla volunteers to give you solutions that are more helpful to you. This may help them to solve your problem faster and more efficiently.
Please, feel free to post the link to your thread on this thread for volunteers interested in assisting you.
guigs2, I tried but it wouldn't let me post it. Maybe it's too long of a list? IDK, but I didn't get any error messages about length. When I tried to drag a screen shot into the link, it told me the screen shot was too big. I'm working on making it smaller and will once again try to create a new thread by putting the list in comments instead of trying to fit it all in the OP.
