OS Apple OS X 10.10 (problem also on previous OS X). Thunderbird 31.2.0. Mail service provider is Fastmail.

Mail box structure using IMAP is

- Inbox

 |-Trash

-Drafts -Send items -Archives -Trash - {remainder of my mail folders}

This problem only surfaced after I began using an iMac and OS X. My iPad has not issue like this. Don't use an iPhone (yet).

The inbox is light grey and italics sometimes is has messages in it other times not. I think the messages populate there on account creation. Cannot delete a msg in the inbox. The trash folder under the inbox is normal text. All new msgs go to this trash folder. I can delete msgs there.

The trash folder under the main map directory structure shows message deleted from web access to the account (or other mail clients), but not messages deleted from the trash folder under the inbox when using the iMac.

Msgs deleted from the trash under the inbox appear in the inbox folder and flagged as imap deleted when I do a web browser access to the account.

When I access Thunderbirds Account Setting my server setting say When I delete a message: Move it to this folder: Trash on xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.com. When I click the arrows to the right of the selection box, the trash folder check marked in the trash under the main directory structure, NOT the trash under the Inbox. The same drop down shows the a trash folder under the inbox when I expand the inbox. Advance setting here show, For account "xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.com" IMAP server directory: {blank/empty} which is the default configuration for this window. All other entries are default for the account setup.

If you need more info, please let me know.

How or what do I do to fix this. I should have only one trash. I should be able to delete messages in my inbox. New messages should not be delivered to a trash folder under the inbox.

If you need additional information, please contact me.
