I keep getting this error message whenever I close Firefox: The instruction at 0x7220e0bc referenced memory at 0xffffffff. The memory could not be read.

I read over the replies to this question, and tried everything suggested. I uninstalled all Flash programs and Java. I turned off hardware acceleration. I tried my registry repair program. I uninstalled Firefox and used regedit to eliminate all registry entries pertaining to Firefox. I reinstalled Firefox and when I closed the program, I got the same error message. I restarted Firefox in safe mode with all plugins deactivated, closed the program, and got the same error message.

This is the reference to my error report starting with bp, it's the only one: bp-8675a486-5f7b-4250-a778-6e12a2140916 9/16/2014 10:21 AM

None of my other programs or browsers produce any error messages. This is extremely annoying. Does anyone have an answer to this issue?

Thanks very much for your assistance.

Jason

Your crash report shows that npjp2.dll is causing the problem. I think it is a Java sub program.

Open your Add-ons Manager <Control><Shift> A. On the left side, select Plugins. Look for Java (not JavaScript) and set it to Ask To Activate.

Restart Firefox. Some web pages may not display properly. Do not worry about that for now.

Go around some safe web sites. Are there any problems? Close Firefox. Any problems?

I did read about the npjp2.dll as a possible source of the problem. As I said I uninstalled Java and used my registry cleaner program, but at first that didn't seem to help. One thing I did not do was restart my computer.

I performed a memory check using the tool in Windows 8 which required a restart because it seems to work at the DOS level. The check said all memory was OK. Upon restart the error message I was getting when closing Firefox disappeared. Now I am going to reinstall Java to see if the message reappears. That may tell the story about the npjp2.dll.

When I reinstall Java, if I get the problem, I will set Java to Ask To Activate and restart to see what happens. I will keep you posted on the result.

I reinstalled Java, and I have not had the memory error message pop up yet. I have been using Firefox to view different sites for the past hour. I have not reinstalled Flash or Shockwave. After re-installation, I will report any issues.
