Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I have just had this issue of random tabs opening to various webpages that I did not select.
This is what I discovered. In my Hub / router, I discovered someone using linux had gained access. This was the IP info: udhcp 1.18.1-VD Linux VDLinux.1.2.1.x(5c:a3:9d:0e:7d:b3)
Remove the offending connection and reset a new password.
update: This wireless link is apparently being set by my Samsung smart TV.

Contact Samsung about your TV.
And ask about the router.
Used MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware on trial. Found loads of malware in the Mozilla Firefox profile.
Used Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller Did not find anything.
Using Norton, ran full scan and found nothing.
