Uploading images for an eBay listing

Never had this problem/glitch ever before! When I attempt to create a new listing and attach 'my' photos, it only imports blocks of color (see attached image)! The only thing I can possibly think what might be happening is I went to the Sherwin-Williams website https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW9130-evergreen-fog and clicked on "Explore in Colorsnap Visualizer" - which did not work! (However, it does work in Safari and Opera!) We have tried everything to try to delete whatever we may have imported (a virus???), i.e. went to Firefox prefs/Privacy&Security and cleared/managed data (which continually repopulates so the clearing/managing seems to do nada); downloaded a new Firefox app...nothing stops this behavior in eBay (and don't know if this behavior shows up elsewhere). My eBay works fine in Safari and Opera with this situation.

That stripey pattern is characteristic of turning on privacy.resistFingerprinting -- it randomizes images extracted from an HTML canvas.

To make an exception for sites you WANT to be able to do that, after the problem occurs, look for a new icon next to the lock icon in the address bar. It should look a bit like a picture. Click that to manage the permission related to this feature.

SUCCESS! You are amazing...and blown away by how quickly you answered! My husband was tearing his hair out and found this: https://restoreprivacy.com/browser-fingerprinting/ under the heading "Firefox fingerprinting" and had changed privacy.resistFingerprinting from 'false' to 'true' - as they recommended. When he changed it back to 'false'...everything was good. On the other several selections in that paragraph, do you see anything else that shouldn't be done as they suggest. Thank you!

Hi, glad to hear that helped.

I wouldn't make any of those changes myself.

  • webgl.disabled (change to true) – this may break map sites and other types of interactive graphics
  • media.peerconnection.enabled (change to false) – this may prevent web-based teleconferencing
  • geo.enabled (change to false) – Firefox already asks if you want a site to have permission to get your precise location, so globally disabling this isn't necessary. You can tap the Esc key to dismiss the drop-down panel. On the other hand, if there is no site in the world you would want to share this information with, then feel free to disable it.
  • privacy.firstparty.isolate (change to true) – This has the potential to break a few sites. Now that a slightly modified version of first party isolation is built-in to the Strict level of Tracking Protection, I think that is a better choice. See: Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop.
