Why does current version of Firefox suddenly start crashing every time a new version becomes available?

Everything is fine with no crashes until that little box starts popping alerting me of a new version. I have 3.6.10 and everything was fine until the new version became available. Then it was a crash a day. The same thing happened when 3.6.10 became available and I had the version before that. Once it crashes it then takes all that extra time to rebuild the pages at my most often used web sites. I'm about ready to go back to IE.
