PDF downloads dissappear or won't save to desktop.

Running Firefox 3.6.3, mac osx 10.4.11, Acrobat 7.1.0 When I want to download a pdf file the screen goes blank and either loads to an unknown destination or doesn't load. I don't know. Also have a bunch of % signs on the title. Tried going to the print box and saving it as a pdf file but that didn't work either. Running 10.5 at home and it seems to have no problem saving pdf files to my downloads folder on my dock.
