Hi, I'm running 88.01. should it update automatically to 89. If I install manually I lose my bookmarks, is that normal?

If you suddenly found that you are running Firefox 89 right now -- while it is still in beta testing -- that is not normal. You can confirm the version you are running by checking one of these:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the first table on the page, you'll find some useful information, such as:

  • Version: currently 88.0.1
  • Update Channel: typically "release"
  • Application Binary: location of the firefox.exe that this page is running in

The update, when it comes out, should happen automatically.

You should not lose and profile data, but sometimes it happens. If it does, let us know and we can help you.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles {web link} I use a Legacy add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

Hi Trev, it's not normal to lose your home page URL, search engine setting, or bookmarks at every startup. Do you want to start a new question about that problem?
