My Firefox doesn't keep history when I shut down my pc. I have reinstalled it and change the option of history in options but It's changes every time alone. I use some programmes like Auslogics Boost Speed and Advanced System Care(I disable everything that has to do about history and all these when I scan)and Malware Bytes Antimalware. Please help me. Thank you!

Advanced SystemCare does have a feature to roll back settings changes you make to a previously saved settings file. This might be under Surfing Protection or somewhere else in the settings. Until you find and disable that, I think every time you exit Firefox you'll lose your updated settings.

Other possible issues are outlined in this article: How to fix preferences that won't save.

Does that help?

I don't think that these instructions in link helped. I don't think that I have made any changes from AdvancedSystemCare.I open it rarely...And I used to use it for 2 years and I never had a problem(with exactly the same use, without privacy sweep in the scan). Is there some more help? Thank you for your time!

If you open your currently active Firefox profile folder and keep an eye on prefs.js, can you see the timestamp being updated when you change your privacy settings?

You can open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Scroll down and select prefs.js (or if Windows is hiding the .js extension, the prefs file that is of the type JScript) and take a glace at the last modified date/time.

Then, in Firefox, try changing your privacy settings. Give Firefox 30 seconds to update prefs.js and check to see whether the last modified date/time has advanced.

Can you tell whether the file is updating?

Before shutting down Firefox, make a backup copy of prefs.js in a safe location such as your Documents folder.

After shutting down Firefox, check the modified date/time on the file to see whether it was rolled back. Perhaps this won't happen right away, but it would be useful to get a better understanding of what might be triggering it.

The date/time changed only when I shutted down Mozilla and NOT when I changed privacy settings and waited about 1 minute(I refreshed).

Okay, I'm not sure why the preference change isn't saving right away.

What is the change you're making in the Options dialog? If Firefox is starting off set to "Never remember history" and you change it to "Use custom settings for history" then you also need to uncheck the box for automatically starting in private browsing mode. Otherwise, there's no actual change in settings (just a change in the appearance of the dialog).

more options

No,it starts and stays in "remember history" and I change it to "use custom settings for history"."Clear history when Firefox closes" is unchecked. Any other possible solution please?

Now when I shut down Firefox the history is in its place. But when I shut down my pc the history disappears and there is not another tag except "Today".At previous Firefox I had before format there were some more tags like "Yesterday" "1week" etc. Is there something else that I can do? Thank you for your time!

Do you have any cleanup software like CCleaner? Some privacy and utility software will remove browsing data at various intervals. I think CCleaner can be scheduled to do its thing at Windows startup.

I have Auslogics Boost Speed and Malwarebytes Antimalware and Advanced System Care(Iam almost sure that this specific program is not the problem).

more options

But I disabled Auslogics Boost Speed at startup. So I only have Malwarebytes Antimalware now,I don't know if this causes any problem...

I shuted down my pc now and The history didn't disappeared but it has kept only from today(not from other days).I will check when the next day comes to see what the history will do and let you know the result.

Your Profile folder is going to be on the same drive as your operating system, regardless of where the Firefox program was installed. C:\Users\Windows login user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profile_name

Hello,my profile folder is in the path that you have posted. So I think that this path is on the operating system(Windows 7),right?

My history is ok now,I don't know how, what I did, but there is one more tag that says "Yesterday". I would like to ask one more question if it's possible. Can you tell me how can I edit the icons(links, sites) that there are when I open a new blank page?I mean how can I put a favorite page(link) in a blank box?Because some times the page disappears from there...I want to save the pages that I like mostly. Take an eye at the picture. Thank you for all!

You can drag and drop bookmarks into the blank spaces. Otherwise, they gradually fill up with sites you have visited based on your history.

See: Customize your Firefox New Tab page

You can change the order of the boxes on the about:newtab page and drag an item to a different tile to pin it to that position or you can remove a website by clicking the close X to block that URL. You can drag a bookmark or history item and drop them in a tile on the about:newtab page to pin them and have your own favorites sites showing.

Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in prefs that you can find on the about:config page.

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites that you have pinned to a tile.
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites that you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile.

See this article about the New Tab page (about:newtab):
