I'm trying to synch Firefox 29 on three laptops: two Windows 7, one Windows 8.

The two W7 machines are fine.

On the W8 machine, I go to Tools, Set Up Synch, and attempt to Sign in to my existing account: I use the same id and password but get the message "Unexpected error".

On the W8 machine, when I look at Tool, Options, Synch, it says my Email id is not verified. I press "Verify Email id", get the popup message saying that the verification email id has been sent. But no such email arrives. Not in my Inbox nor in my Junk mail.

The W7 machines are synching OK and show no message about unverified email ids.

I've tried un-linking my account from all three machine machines and then deleting the Synch account and started allover again.

I've also tried un-installing and re-installing Firefox from the Windows 8 machine.
