Interface stops updating

joncombe

Firefox has now updated to the latest version and, as usual, it is worse.

This time what I've seen happening sometimes (and it's happened twice now) is that after a while the interface stops updating. By that I mean, if I switch tabs it the browser part of the window updates to show the correct page, but the highlighted tab does not change it stays on the old one. Similarly if I open new tabs, they do not appear in the interface (but using the keyboard shortcuts to switch tabs) does work. If I close a tab, the tab bar does not update and continues to show all the old tabs. The address bar also cannot be activated.

The only solution is to restart Firefox.

Is this a known issue?

Are you using any 'tab' add-ons?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Separate Security Issue: Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Flash Player Version: 23.0.0. 207 Flash Player (Linux) Version 11.2. 202.644

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Direct link scans current system and browser Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, Win IE . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

See if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

No I'm not using any tab add ins.

"Extensions" shows AdBlock Plus and Adoble DLM (the latter of which is showing disabled).

Plugins shows

OpenH264 by Cisco Primetime Content Decryption Module provided by Adobe VLC Web Plugin Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Adobe Acrobat (shown as vulnreable, should be updated) Canon Image Gateway Album Plugin Utility Google Earth Plugin Google Update iTunes Application Detector Java Deployment Toolkit (flagged as vulnreable) Jave SE7 Plugin (flagged as vulnreable) Microsoft Office 2010 (listed twice) Quicktime Plugin (flagged vulnreable) Shockwave Flash Plugin (flagged vulnerable) Silverlight Plugin (flagged vulnerable) Windows Live Photo Gallery

However all are shown as "Ask to Activate" except for the first 4, which show always activate. Don't know where they've all come from I think Flash and AdBlock plus are the only ones I recall installing.

Extensions are options you install into Firefox, They can be removed at will. Plugins are from programs that Firefox finds already on your system.

An extension without a Remove button is really a plugin. The only way to remove a plugin is to remove its program from your system. However, you can disable extensions and plugins if you want.

Fred, thanks for the information. However it looks like these plugins are not related to the tabs so I do not think it will solve the problem. They also haven't changed between the last version and this version but the problems have only started to occur after the latest update.

Just to let you know, a security update was just issued for Firefox. Please check for updates if you haven't.

Did you check Firefox in Safe Mode?
